How quickly things change. Goes from "could be cheapest price ever" to "not even close to cheapest price" in a matter of a couple weeks.

yeah, been watching the thread.  They are selling it for $100-$150 now.  Most places are selling out in literally a few minutes.  Local stores *might* have it.  In either case, the huge price drop might be over in a matter of hours.

Oh, also stopped in at Officemax when they opened, was the only one there, could've COMPLETELY walked out with a couple tablets, but was told they pulled them two days ago and are "not permitted" to sell any.

WTF.

So, my morning was fun.

I ended up getting a 32gb at HHGreg for $150.  They still had it for the slightly lowered $500 when I got there.  Took some talking, but they honored the deal.

Staples - they have a few but aren't allowed to sell them at the lower price
Officemax - have them too, but their "director" told them to pull them from the shelves and they weren't even allowed to sell them at the normal high price.
Target - dude said they never sold them and acted all innocent like he's never heard of them.  Then after talking some more, he admitted a few others had gotten there before me.  liar.
Walmart - Lady behind the counter and 4 other walmart employees literally were looking at one in her hands.  When i walked up and asked about it, she said they weren't selling them.  I asked if the computer would corroborate her answer and she said "it hadn't caught up yet and probably still reflected some that were available."  liar.
Best buy - didn't even try because i heard from slickdeals that they were shipping all theirs back to HP... no clue if this is true or not.
hp.com (and pretty much all other online websites) - sold out
Amazon - still won't lower the price.
HHGREG - was the first person to walk in when they opened at 10am.  They had heard of the deal but said the internal memo they got was the deal would start on Sunday.  They honored the deal anyway (especially after showing proof that officedepot's website was listed for the lower price on their own computer).  Yay for hhgreg!!

For $100 - $150, i think it's the price all tablets should be... taking into account they are barely much more than a keyboard-less netbook, and those sell for $300+.

From wikipedia:

Quote
webOS is a proprietary mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel

and

Quote
The webOS web browser, simply named "Web," uses the WebKit layout engine and accordingly renders pages in a similar way to other WebKit-based browsers such as Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome and Android browsers.

So easy leap from to being detected as Safari on Linux.

thanks for the lesson, my comment was more about our site detecting it like that.  Just wanted to see what it would do.

I see these fondleslabs as a toy rather than a tool.  Outside of the cult of Steve Jobs I only see these as serving a niche group.

I think the PC manufacturers thought that tablets would replace PC's and are now discovering that this is not the case.  HP does what HP does best and was at the cutting edge of failure, they smashed their ship into the shores of who gives a f**k.  Microsoft and other manufacturers are poised to start supporting ARM and other mobile platforms,  the MBA dbag brigade are all salivating at moving PC users into a closed platform where they sell them everything in a DRM/DLC cesspool like gaming consoles are today.  Apples dominance over the tablet marketplace and the niche market already saturated I see this as big ideas in a small marketplace.

  Long live PC's
