As mentioned previously, LAN groups feed off of one another, they don't starve because the other exists. It's very important for the growth and vitality of any LAN org to be cooperative with other groups. In fact, they already know about us. I searched through their forums and found this rather positive post in a case mod discussion

Try FITES in aug. right down by Ya'
IN {{{YORK Pa.}}} a 3 day event.
Heard the ""BEST"" show up there.

I think it would be in "the community's" best interest to extend nothing but olive branches and first-aid kits instead of arrows and frag grenades to not just Burning LAN, but to any and all lan party groups we encounter. We didn't get 879 registered users on our website or the best LAN's anywhere in PA by making enemies with anyone.

Edit: Also saw this on their front page:

We are shifting out of our current Joomla CMS and making our own content management system. One of our hopes is to now include a function of registration which lets you reserve a specific seat when you register!

Sounds familiar. Maybe we could offer some advice as we've already gone through that custom seat registration system development (twice in fact!)

Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

I think this would call for 1 or 2 rounds where it is everyone against F3ar0n.  All those who agree say "Yes".

"YES"

Yeah so I think I may be coming down with the 1 day flu on Saturday. Something tells me I'm just not gonna be able to make it. LOL

Hey guys,

I know it's kinda old, but I never really saw this thread before.

I'm the head coordinator of BurningLAN, Eric Abruzzese, and I wanted to thank Blake... er... Boofy for his contributions. I know he said it was run by a much younger crowd, but myself and the rest of the staff are all at least 18 (so I see his point, but many of us are at least college-age). Just so you know a bit about me: I am currently attending Shippensburg University for Computer Science, planning on transferring to MIT to complete my Master's/Doctorate. I am currently MCSA, MCSE, MCDST, Red Hat, Debian, CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, CEH, Security+, A+, and Net+ certified and am still taking exams for others.

Now, as for the post:

I wanted to thank FITES, it's staff, forum admins, the community, etc, for being so... constructive. I honestly thought this thread was going to end in the continual bashing of my website.

Honestly, I don't really like Joomla. Not at all. But a website is almost absolutely crucial for any successful LAN, and seeing as how we hold BurningLAN rather frequently, we needed a quick, painless setup that was flexible and at least somewhat easy to use, so we could start posting and getting the info to our attendees. Being a developer and a designer myself, I've been working on a CMS and a better design based on the versatile CodeIgniter framework, entirely powered by the jQuery engine for AJAX. I've got a few friends who do intensive CSS work, but we want it to look good and be functional before it's release.

Now, I don't know where that fellow was going that he got a bunch of 404s and PHP errors, because I've built a crawlerbot (cronjob) to crawl my specific site to find broken links, errors, and 404s. I'm thinking this was when we switched from HostGator to Dreamhost, judging by the date of posting. So, I'm not just some kid who threw up a Joomla site - I do development, design and SEO for a living. Thanks for understanding guys :)

As many in this thread have posted, it would be in the gaming community's best interest if local LANs helped each other out. So, if anyone has any suggestions, questions, advice, whatever, please feel free to email me! eric.abruzzese@burninglanyork.com

Peace,
Eric Abruzzese

First off, Welcome!  I would love to attend the Burning LAN of York, but I won't be able to attend.  As far as local LAN groups helping each other:  that's right on the money there.  I would have never of found about FITES if someone here had never wandered to my measly Yahoo group and posted something about them.  Good luck with yer lan!  Hope to see you at some FITES events!
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I can't remember the last time I went to a LAN just to play and didn't have to lug all the extra gear I bring to FITES events.....that idea is so foreign to me anymore. I think I'd feel like I was forgetting something the whole time :)

Well you could do like you did at the last LAN.  Just bring a server to the LAN and pick it up at the end of the LAN with all the files you want.  You would have a lot less to lug around then.

But I didn't get to game, all I did was leech remotely ;) And I still brought 3 servers, an XBox360, projector, projector screen and a cable modem, plus the WHS to leech. For not physically being there, I still contributed quite a bit to the electric usage for the weekend.

Haha, nobody know about lugging stuff like a LAN coordinator!

Anyway...

BurningLAN is crazy cheap ($8.00) because the church lets us have it there for free. Almost all of our proceeds go to the church, so BurningLAN is kindof a charity event too!

Just register on the site if you're coming! We love new faces! :)

Yes and mucho gracias (SP?) for bringing the kick arse Rock Band along. Playing Living On A Prayer hasnt gotten old yet (plus we just like to see Travis yell and throw out his voice)

Yes Rock Band was awesome.  I got some time on it and kicked ass on medium.  Even played 1 or 2 songs perfectly the first time through.
