BURNING LAN YORK
« on: October 24, 2008, 07:01:15 AM »
www.burninglanyork.com JAN. 2 2009
Not sure if anyone from the Fites group attends but thought I would pass the word around.
I've only been to one of their lans which is held in a church rec. room.  Definitely odd hearing a !HEAD SHOT! in a place like that but its not so different when you're surrounded by PC's.   It's run by a much younger crowd than Fites yet still has the professional feeling of a committed group as well as server/network.  I can't speak on average terms but the xbox360 / PC crowd was split about even.   After talking with Eric (one of the admins) the attendance has been growing at each party.  I recommend this lan and will continue to support it by going and bringing friends along.
(At the moment of posting it appears their site is down.... but maybe its just because I'm in Poland right now and cant get through)

My other thoughts...
After the popularity of MMO's and the advent of High Speed Internet I've felt lans have lost their momentum and more importantly the real community touch.  Local groups should combine to make the best of their respective rosters and plan dates that could alternate yet still provide consistent events.  This would also cut down on a select few bearing the weight of setup and cost.

There Website is on the fritz and only 34 members in the forums  :'(. Muhahaha for the better lan group in Central PA..

Plus Joomla = crap in my opinion for a CMS site

Everyone has to start somewhere and it looks like they have a decent list of sponsors. Don't be a butt! Most LAN Parties survive off of one another! Also, I don't think you are qualified to make such suggestions about what people use for their site since I have yet to see you maintain anything commercial or do anything in your professional portfolio.

Yeah, I don't think it is appropriate to 'poke fun' at another lan group.  I wonder if you made fun of my attempt at getting together a lan party I posted on here when I first joined.  I didn't even have a website.  Well, I had a Yahoo group but that doesn't count.

EDIT:  I tried healing the original post with a bandaid, but I guess you can only bandage your own bashed posts?

Bandaids broke on the last SMF update. I will get to work on it. (See not everything here is always perfect.)

I disagree that we have become stagnant.  We continue to bring in new members and there are usually new faces at the LANs.  I think the hype has diminished since we haven't had the 150 yet but as soon as it is announced you will see the boards lighting up.
Never, but never question the engineers judgement.

Resorting to ad hominem attacks off the cuff is indicative that you have no idea what you are talking about. My personal portfolio not withstanding, I am more than qualified to judge a website and work that has been on it and draw a valid personal opinion for such.

On a unrelated note, I feel it is incredibly unprofessional for a leader of  a organization to belittle a member nearly for stating his own personal opinion

Rathe,

I hope you are correct.  There definitely have been some new faces at the LANs.  My take is that the games have become stagnant when we plan the same games repetitively.  I really enjoy playing COD4 online, but get bored with it at the LAN.  When we end up playing it for hours, then I just lose interest.  We all probably have our game that do this to us at the LANS.

These new faces are great and I did notice Jack of All Trades is signed up for our next LAN.  Holy GALT blast from the past Batman!  Believe it or not, we should also give some credit to Tibs for making it to 2 LANS in a row and bringing someone with him.

I honestly get tired of COD4 at times as well.  But we are all aware of the CS:S players (they are just the most visible group) who almost only play CS:S and play it for 46 out of 48 hours at the LAN.  So one game can sustain a good LAN but I do like when we change things up now and then.

Not when the member in question, who is labeled as a FITES V.I.P, is quite outright bashing the site of another local LAN group who posted on here in good faith. How do you think that makes us look? You have the VIP title, which basically means, act like it. Yes, you can vocalize your opinions, just keep the outright negative ones to yourself or on a private board.
