I'd like to see someone do one that didn't involve a flat panel monitor or a notebook computer (too easy).

I tried it awhile ago on my brothers 17" CRT (it was in a corner) but man its tough. And only works right on apples :D

edit: looking at it closer this one is amazing:

due to the fact there is part of the computer IN the picture

I think that it would be wholey unbeleivable as a CRT. Think about the way the two are made.  If a CRT was "clear" you would have nothing for the CATHODE ray to strike and cause to glow. LCD on the other hand has a backing and CAN be clear. Just I doubt that black is clear.

It would be neat to take the tube out of a CRT, take a photo of the housing, then use that as a background.. would feel liek it was hollow!

I think this one would be the most difficult to pull off technically.

Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

oooho, i figured it out!

He took a picture of his arm/hand... then photoshopped a screenshot of a calculator on top of it...

then.. he took his hand, and pulled the sleeve over it and lined it up with his wrist in the picture... brilliant!

Lets see here:

Power
iPod
Card Reader
Mouse
Monitor
Audio Out

It's normally less than that, (just power and audio) but it's been "docked" for the past day getting all teh quakecon pics online, so having an external monitor and mouse is good

Wow, that's pretty cool.  And yeah, would be unbelievable w/ a CRT, but would still be cool.  I had the same thought as you, though Pride, about taking a pic of the inside of it.  If mine weren't so heavy and I weren't too lazy to move it I would give it a try.  Well, not the ins iside thing, just the transparent thing in general.  That pic w/ the hand is awesome, good theory on how he did it Pride.

quoted from the comments for that video:

"They accomplished this by chroma-keying out a solid-color desktop picture (white or light-gray, by the look of the edges around the icons). It's a technique referred to as "blue-screening." The desktop picture was then replaced with a plate-shot of the same camera angle, minus the powerbook."
