Counter-Strike: Source Tournament Suggestion
« on: February 14, 2010, 01:46:24 PM »
I'm a little confused how the ruleset for the tournament got picked. I personally prefer the standard $800 startmoney, 15 rounds a half, first to 16 rounds format. Is there a reason why you picked the ruleset you did? I've never heard of $1600 startmoney, first to 11 rounds ruleset =/

Ohh, my suggestion would be $800 startmoney, 1:45 roundtime, 15 rounds a half, 16 rounds to win, basically the gold standard for competitive counter-strike.

It's almost a fites tradition to use our own rule sets and base them somewhat on other gold standards. We've used first to 11 rounds for the past several years. In fact this is the first time in years we've gone with 5v5 and not 6v6.

I understand wanting to do your own thing, but that ruleset makes no sense and are there halves?

You know what else makes no sense? The Chewbacca defense. I rest my case.

Okay, I'm done now. I don't play CS, nor will I ever, but I had to throw that out there. :-D

You each take turns playing on each side of the map.

21 rounds, 2 halves.

10.5 rounds per half?

ok honestly, we're talking 10 round havles? win 11 and you win the match! 1 round over time? that makes the 21round max.

Here's an idea that is not a normal config, but would work out pretty well I think:

Start money: $7500
Round Time: 1:45
Rounds Per Half: 11
Rounds To Win: 12
Freezetime: Whatever you wanna use.

Either way, I'm just looking for a little more definition on how the tourney is going to be formatted.

The CSS tourney rules/settings are what's posted on the tourney sign up list. We will not be altering them unless we find that we made a typographical error.

I think they were more concerned that there was a ambiguity over the fact of would you be playing 10 rounds each half, and how the last round would be played out

Czar correct me if I miss something or get something wrong.

I don't really get where First to 11; 21 round limit is confusing. I have played in TWL and done a little math in my day so I understand this perfectly well. If you are confused as to what a round is, then look it up. We have already said that teams will take turns playing on each side of the map.

If you are still confused the rules state 1:45 Per Round (note the use of Round)... those who like server configs, that would be mp_roundtime 1.45. One round is one spawn, one buy period,  on one side of the map. (that means that in 1 round you will either be a Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist and not both)

I can understand people will have different preferences in the counts and start values. I have played in tournaments with a wide range of settings in these areas, and I find the variety refreshing. It can bring even more challenge in strategy for starting kit in the tournaments.

In terms of the # of rounds, keep in mind that CSS is not the only tournament and not the only activity scheduled for the event so time can be a factor in scheduling. There are a lot of moving parts to make sure as many people have as many participation opportunities as possible to maximize fun. So maximize the fun and enjoy every moment of the tournaments. I have seen and participated in this tournament format many times over the years and the tournaments have been fun, fulfilling, and exciting while still allowing me to play in multiple tournaments without being forced to pick which game i wanted to play over the other.

Now now, you don't have to be rude about it. Just asking a simple question. I am not trying to rain on your parade.

So what you are basically saying, is the tourney is like the NFL, with 20 rounds, and if after those 20 rounds the score is tied 20-20, you just play out another round, winner take all event. I am aware of the thing you call math, it is a little puzzling, as I have problems carrying the 7 on your equation.

No worries man, I wasn't trying to be rude. I just wanted to be overly explicit since there is an entire page of questions and confusion from multiple points.
