I'll contribute my two cents here.
CoD4 is designed around the perks option. The allure to the game is to custom create a player to your specs and your style of gameplay. There's a lot of talk on this thread about "lucky shots". There will ALWAYS be lucky shots. No matter what game people will always get a lucky shot. If you don't think so pull out that auto shotgun in CSS and see how many people you piss off.
There's a lot of talk about SMGs taking out snipers. Well, if you are a sniper out in the open and not watching your angles, you deserve to get shot by an SMG.
There will be players who use the perks to help their game because they suck otherwise. (Juggernaut, Last Stand, Martyrdom, insert your hated perk of choice.) Then there will be players who use perks in a set way to enhance that class, i.e. creating a special stealth or sniper class that has perks designed around the way you play that class.
All in all, I think the idea of removing perks and weapon options is removing the essence of the game. If people want to play the game in a tourney style then they should play the game the way it was meant to be. With weapon and perk options. I don't think anyone can argue that the DAM mod made CoD4 a pretty version of CSS. If you want to play that, go ahead, but I think people are doing a huge injustice to the game, and insulting the original developers of the game by limiting the options the player has.
As for game type, I'm all for Domination or Sabotage. It makes for exciting game play that lasts right up to the end, and can be played quicker considering it is just one round.
I also see the problem of having both a DAM mod game, and an "Everybody at level 55" pub game. Where is the time in the weekend, and where are the available staff to monitor the tourney. Valid points, but I have confidence in the FITES staff to come up with a good decision.
Will their decision keep me from attending a LAN? No, but I'm an easy going gamer. Others out there will get sand all up in their ass crack and run away like crying two year olds. Ultimately I feel that gamers should play and respect the game for what it is, and not place limitations on other players in the name of "skill" or "level playing field". Don't you think the perks were placed there to make a level field for all gamers to begin with?
