Title: Servers
Post by: jma on March 10, 2010, 11:50:00 AM
When I was in college I built a test server to test all our different configurations and labs.

Now that I have graduated I happen to have a Intel CPU, 8gig ram, 2tb raid 5 server sitting around not really doing anything.

I decided to turn this into a server to host various services.  At the moment I'm hosting 4 websites (email for two using exchange), a ventrillo server, and one freelancer (the game) server.

The machine is connected to a verizon fios connection with 15/mbps connection.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

For a very small fee I am looking for more "customers" that are in need of some hosted services.  The machine is very capable and can host web, email, voice, and I'm even willing to test game servers.    The rates are very reasonable.

If you're interested please send an inquiry to jared.m.adams1@gmail.com

Thanks!

Jared

lol

To further elaborate on the connection....

It IS indeed verizon, but it is a business account.  Furthermore I'm not using the crappy router verizon ships that gets overwhelmed easily with alot of connections.

My vote is on a hacked (DDWRT/Tomato) Linksys based router!  Which still suck for total amount of connections that it can handle.

DDWRT/Tomato is hardly "hacking"

I'll be using a pfsense box.

Any other questions?

Nothin like a FW doin your routing... it works though and its not a bad piece of gear.

It works quite well actually.  Handles many times more connections and is a lot more secure than the consumer based routers.  If/when I find myself in need of something more suitable I'll make that investment.  But at the moment, for what I plan to use it for, it servers its purpose well.

Me and a buddy are going to go ahead and setup a CODMW server on it come April (stuck in NY for job training till then).  From what I understand it uses about 400MB of ram and hardly any CPU.

I plan on using a VM to do to this.  I have a VERY light version of windows xp that uses only about 150mb of ram on startup.  I'd like to seperate server types with VM's. This way if one server type crashes I wont have to restart the entire system.

I'll post results here too I guess.  Success stories might attract future business.

CSS server is up.  Call of duty 4 server will be up soon as well as UT3.

If anyone gets a minute could you test out the CSS server?  Havent gotten a chance to stress test it with alot of connections.  Want to make sure I gave the VM adequate resources.

name of the server is JAREDSERVER, should be located in the master list.

Also previous posts have been updated for accuracy on server info.
