Title: Selling my old PC, how much is it worth
Post by: zx2slow on May 03, 2009, 08:36:18 PM
Posting here cause it probably wont sell local.  So I'm selling this:

Its got a overclocked Opteron 165 dual core,2GB of DDR, No hard drive, DVDR, n'stuff.  It will have a single 8800GTS 512mb, I have a second card still in the box from eVga RMA that will be sold separate.  There was a external "bong" reservoir added after this pic.

Top of the line water cooling (Black ice Xtreme triple radiator, Swiftech Storm Rev2 waterblock, DDC+ 18W pump with radiical derilin head).  I suck at guessing what things are worth, Im thinking $300, does that sound legit?  The case has a few years of use and I am getting tired of working on it.  I just cleaned it up and put new tubing in the machine, so its freshened up.

That is the same price I sold my old PC for. But then again I sold it along with the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a 4.1 surround sound system. For $300 that is a good bang for the buck. You can't replicate that for $300, the watercooling parts are probably worth more then that.

In that case, you'll pay me how much to take it?

Well, that is very tempting. What would shipping costs look like? And the water block for the CPU... Is that AMD specific?

The water block has different mounting options (AMD & Intel), but it is a jet impregnation block which gives it a small area of maximum heat transfer, there are better options for quad cores.  For the hardware its cooling its very well suited if not extreme overkill (1.8GHz dual core that never sees 35C even overclocked to 3.0GHz)

I dunno if I want to ship this one, I cant ship full of coolant and really can trust whoever gets it wont juts fill it with tap water and allow the watercooling bits to die in 6 months of misuse and neglect.  You gotta use distilled water and an additive, I have enough additive to last this a decade (Zerex racing coolant or Swiftec Hydrex coolant in less than 10% strength).  With the primochill primoflex tubing it will last 24 months before you should do any maintence.  The tubing gets cloudy as the plasticizers leach out.  I got their new tubing that's supposedly better and should last longer than that.

Then how would we get it from you? Aren't you far away now?

Well, I said I was going to sell it local, by local I meant Boston.  Unless fites need another server.

Probably a good idea.  Kev would get you way more money anyway.
