for everyone still using XP, there is no upgrade option avialable. You have to either upgrade to Vista then 7 or do a completely new install of 7.

I've actually been toying with the idea of getting a technet subscription. Right now, they are $250 for a year. At that price, I would have access to Windows 7 before it comes out, access to the full versions of Windows servers, Office, etc. And from what i understand, the licenses are perpetual, so when your 1 year is up, you can still use whatever apps you downloaded and used during the subscription.
With Win7 Ultimate costing $220 to uprade, $250 for technet is sounding pretty darn good.

Everything on the technet site says $350 for a subscription. And as far as the subscriptions go can you install multiple copies of the software? or would it be 1 7, 1 vista, 1 xp etc.

there's a coupon code: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/06/26/microsoft-offering-100-technet-discount-till-july-3 (http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/06/26/microsoft-offering-100-technet-discount-till-july-3)

I just looked and it tells you for a new subscription it is $350 and if you are already a subscriber then it will be $250 for a renew.
-
um, go to the link they provided, enter the code they provided, and POOF, $250
-
Just saying, not like I would want to spend that every year for some service I would never use.

So, follow me here... spend $250, get a copy of anything MS already is selling and anything new MS sells within the next year. Download it, keep it, and use it for life. When the 1 year expires, don't re-up unless you know of another new version of Server, Desktop OS, or Office that it would make sense to re-up for. But you keep to keep anything you downloaded during the 1 year.

I followed from the start. I am just saying that me personally I would never use the service.

He doesn't get it....just give up :P

Lost cause!

Yep, but the first to complain about a difficult activation scheme that can't be easily pirated. Also, I don't blame them for not supporting an XP upgrade... THEY DON'T FudgeING SUPPORT XP ANYMORE! If they aren't supporting an OS any longer they certainly aren't supporting it's upgrade path.

i'm confused
-
i'm not. I now have purpose in life... the crapping on the lawn of a billionaire.
