Title: Netgear SC101 - NAS for 2000/XP Network 500GB
Post by: sparticusx on May 01, 2007, 09:18:54 AM
I have a Netgear NAS SC101 10/100 Network NAS I got this past christmas hoping they would update their drivers for Vista.  But by that Time I will have or hope to upgrade to a Home Server.  If anyone is interested I have 2 250GB Harddives in it that can be reformatted as either 2 Drives or Redundant.  Works well for people who want a drive on all computers (non vista  :'( ) that can be access as a local drive.  Newegg still wants 80 bucks for it so 50 bucks for the unit and 50 bucks for each harddrive if you want them.  they are IDE 250GB Maxtor and WD.

So for $150 OBO you can have a 500GB NAS. or a 250GB Redundant NAS.  Workes great for office docs, Pictures and such, not recommended for streaming movies although it did do that solid (Stored DVD ISO's on unit, opened them with VLC worked without glitches on up to 2 computers watching 2 different movies.)

looked couldn't find box...Have origional Reciept.

Email Me if interested (penndotpal@gmail.com)

True it is a Network Attached Storage Device, not a Storage Area Network...

I feel compelled to point this out as we are evaluating a SAN solution at work, this is technically a NAS, not a SAN. But it is still a hell of a bargain if anyone is interested in this.

I am not, as Sparticus mentioned Home Server, I am already using one. I was accepted into the Beta program for Windows Home Server and I have to say it is a very promising technology if they can get a few bugs/compatibility issues solved.

I would of jumped on this about two weeks ago, but sadly I just dropped a pretty penny on a sweet NAS and a WRT350n
