That's totally true about certifications. Anyone who's heard those computertraining.com adds should laugh their asses off at the poor people being misled.
To be fair though, I think you could say the absolute same about people with degrees though. A lot of people with degrees know as little as little as those "paper MCSEs". I think the key is to be genuinely curious about how things work and have an early interest in computers beyond just games. The degree is just icing for the employer because honestly, I'm learning less in say my networking courses than I did in achieving my CCNA.
