Yes, I had my own computer business when I lived in Dallas.

We do sometimes forget the knowledge we have and how people without the knowledge rely on sales people for advice.

I have talked to and heard sales people that have told incorrect things to customers at many electronic, gaming and computer stores. You have to remember we all have preferred hardware and opinions on different vendors and manufactures. You may think something is junk because of a past experience you had with a certain model of hardware and I may have a great experience with newer models of the same hardware. Store fronts are the same, the sales people are different people with different opinions and sometimes even sales rules that may not reflect what the owner of the store wants enforced.

If you think you are slighted and the store is not correct don’t be shy and ask to talk to the manager, if one is not available ask for the phone number and call back when a manager is available. You don’t have to be forceful or mean just be honest and explain what happened and why you feel slighted. You will be amazed at how often you will get what you want.

Alliance computers does have sales people that I would not want my friends taking advice from, but there are knowledgeable people there too. Another thing they do not market or tell you is they do price matching, Kirock  a member of our clan has done this very often in a pinch. If you find something on newegg.com or a reputable website, they will match the price with the shipping and taxes included. You have to bring a printed web cart with the finalized price with the shipping and taxes and they will normally match the price. This does not include any special sales or anything just normal prices.

Anyhow that is my 2 cents…

Well I'll be, what a great mischievious hidden marketing scam they have going on there!  :snicker:  I never knew they price match?!! Dang, that would drop half their inventory to half cost or better!    You'd think a legit place would advertise this like all other retailers, heck I'd even give the place business again on occassion if I knew they priced matched. Well, maybe I wouldn't go that far, but it is good to know this.

Thanks Sirhc!    :10:

sooo....

Was there any consensus on a good local computer store?  I'm in the need of a good Socket A mobo that would support an Athlon XP 3000+, DDR400, and have a AGP 8x slot.

My main rig just died a rather brisk death and I have a lan party I was hoping to go to this weekend.  So, newegg, ZZF, etc isn't really a choice at this point in time.  Neither is a major upgrade as i'm hoping to limp along for a while longer before I lay down serious $$ on a major upgrade.

Thanks in advance!

TRONet is one of our sponsors... I am sure they would give you a good deal seeing that you found out about them through FITES.

Look them up!
