I'm looking for a decent computer store that specializes in both new and used computer equipment. You know those little computer stores that always have goodies at great prices. Post em if you got em!

Cyberwarehouse
Two locations, York and Lancaster.
We have two or three people from the York store that come to the York area lans.

yea i would check out alliance computer because their prices are better then cyberwarehouse. Cyberwarehouse does have a itle more selection though.

My $.02 on alliance....

All the locations are fill3d with n00bs that don't know much about anything other then the specs of whats on the back of the boxes :bigsmile: Sorry, but I wouldn't go there unless it was an extreme emergency to pick up a cable or something very nessesary. You can buy an item from newegg and it shipped overnight for the price you'd pay for anything there. Plus almost everything they sell is used/refurbed and not worth dog poo as I've seen people get burned by the place several times with defective merchandise there...

But if a little small Very overpriced place is what your after you've found it :snicker:

you must be thinking of somewhere else. maybe the harrisburg store. I was just atthe york store about 4 weeks ago and their cases were low end but like 35-40 bucks. try to find that at cyberwarehouse.
I understand what ur saying about newegg but im referring to a place with a storefront not an online vendor.
Hell they used to sell used monitors for like $40. that was about 5 years ago at the harrisburg store. Im not saying use that for your main monitor but i would make a good secondary monitor for a work machine.

Yes Dwg115, I do understand your point and maybe I expressed my opinion of that store a little too much as I've had several friends get burned by them including myself! One was for a harddrive, the kid bought this drive which was sold 'As New' only to have it die a week later, and when he went to return it the guy said that it there is no guarentees and tough luck! What an AHOLE! Of course the drive was also out of the manufactures 1yr warentee and that it's serial number referenced to the manufacture showed it was a oem drive from a Gateway box!
Heck I have many stories about that store and they are all from the Harrisburg location. I haven't been to their York location but from the prices and service I've seen up here and charges they rape customers with on thier servicing I wouldn't even let my dogs piss on that store as that would be too good for for them. :bigsmile: I'll have to check out there York location sometime as it could be a totally different experience then the other two I shopped.

WAY overpriced!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to buy a motherboard for my son (Needed it for a LAN party). It was over $30.00 more then the going price.

This is one of the biggest factors of my h8 towards the place as well. Everything is waaaaay overpriced, and many p00r noobs get totally pwn3d and don't even know it. I mean sure I can see why theyhave to have a bit higher price as they aren't huge volume and can't have an array of everything, but come on, when they sell a used harddrive for more then new retail boxed one or a 120mm fan for $15 when it can be bought for $5, this is just robbery and the police should be arresting them for it :snicker: :snicker:

That is absolutely no different then what Walmart charges for something that you can get cheaper online.

It is no different than what we pay for gas when in the middle east... it is 10 cents a gallon.

There are markups on everything. It is up to the individual to educate themselves in a way that allows them to save the most money.

I guarantee you though... that if a part breaks in your PC, you will be thankful they are there, and you dont have to wait 3 days for the part to arrive via Fed Ex.

And as far as newbs are concerned. Someone who has no idea what to buy is going to feel more comfortable walking into a store, talking to someone face to face, and leaving knowing they bought the correct part.

You all take your knowledge for granted.

Alliance has bailed me out on a few occasions, the staff is friendly and helpful. Keep in mind there's no way a local shop can compete against an online giant like newegg or tiger in prices. I have noticed alliance has good deals on cases, bypassing the ridiculous cost of shipping one.

When I went to the Harrisburg store, I got the feeling that no one knew much about computers. I heard the employees give incorrect information to customers.

I feel that the only thing they have going for them is they're local.

I noticed the prices were WAY above even the retail prices.

An MSI motherboard (socket 754) over a year old was priced at over $130.00.

have you guys ever tried to run a business? alliance computers prices are right in line with local stores.

they dont have alot of inventory, because they dont live off of individual componant sales. the overhead for tech is thru the Fudgeing roof.
