Title: AIW radeon
Post by: The Nstuff on June 19, 2006, 08:18:08 PM
I'm looking for a All In Wonder Radeon for a friend.  PCI Express.  I'm hoping for something better than what I have which is a 9800pro.  X800 or higher would be good.  The all in wonder is a must and I don't really want to pay much more than $150-$200.

Anyone have something they wouldn't mind selling or has anyone seen any good deals meeting these requirements?

i actually wouldn't mind replacing my radeon 9800pro if a good deal came my way.  I'm stuck in the land of AGP and i think i've pretty much decided to not do any major upgrades until next year.  There's another thread here where I discuss why.  My 9800pro still ticks along fine but it would be nice to be ready for ut2k7 when its released...

I used to have an ATI All-In-Wonder Rage 128... best ATI i've ever owned. Of course i doubt you'd want a 16mb card >.>

Ebay seems to have a lot of hits for what you're looking for. You should try clicking this link since I've done the search for you and this will take you directly to the page you want. There seem to be quite a few between $150-200 and I know that's what you were looking for so I figured you might want to search through it. Let me know if I've been helpful in this ordeal or if you would need any other help in your quest for your friend's video card by Array Technologies Incorporated. would it be a tad presumptuous to assume that you, llDayo, haven't anything in your humble abode that would resemble a AIW radeon of recent model?

ebay works fine and dandy, but i prefer to buy from friends or local people if i can help it as I don't have to worry about looking out for "untested" equipment, which on ebay, basically means the card is fried.

Do I since some distain for ATI among the fites crew?

I loved my ATI rage 128... everything beyond that point has been nightmarish for me. I'm no nvidia fanboy, but I will openly say that I have considerable distain for ATI. In all honestly, Matrox has my heart.

I like ATI's stuff more than nVidia, but nVidia seems to be the king of price/proformance with low to midrange cards.

Well, i finally settled on the XFX 7600 GT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150140

All the reviews show it to be the current price/performance champ and unlike the eVGA card, there were no posts on newegg complaining about DOA cards.  So it is here now.  Newegg shipped fast as always.

"I still have a 3DFX Voodoo5 5500 AGP (Original SLi powah)runing in one of my boxes."

My 3dfx voodoo 3 2000 is here somewhere.  Still works.  Going to that from a crappy trident card was like night and day difference... nothing like the kinds of performance increases we see anymore.  We all get excited over 10-20% increase in fps in various games.

I see that people are finally starting to talk about the next versions of ATI's and Nvidia's cards that will feature DX10 among a whole host of other nifty additions.  Can't wait to see that extra 5fps in oblivion over the previous gen.  ;)

I replaced my abused x700pro with 2 XFX 7600GT XXX edition cards in SLi, they are pretty decent for the price.  I havent been able to get the beta drivers working right, but otherwise they are rock solid.
