Any questions just reply. I will get the serial # and DOM (Date of Manufacture), at a later date.

EDIT:

A mere $100? Ummm.... hmmmm. It'll be a few weeks until I have enough funding for anything significant due to just starting this job. How about some pancakes? I have a full box of pancake mix and I can make a meeean breakfast!

To save $100? These are hard times, my friend, and we must do what we can to save a buck. There's a war on, you know.

Updated original post. FYI WD has a 5 year warranty on Raptor drives. So if it breaks before Aug 29 2014. You can send it back for a replacement. Now I don't have the original receipt when I bought it off the previous owner. If I did it would go by the date on the receipt when it was purchased.

I have two of these drives.
Can raiding three together gain any extra speed?
If so I'll buy from you.
Plus why are you selling?

In theory adding an extra drive should increase the performance (if you are talking about a RAID 0 array).  Keep in mind that you are also increasing your risk of losing the entire array with each drive you add, due to there being no redundancy.

Zx is the storage guru, so if Im wrong Im sure he'll correct me.

What you all talking about? Don't you know that adding another drive doubles your throughput each time!? So Two drives are twice as fast as one, three drives are 4 times as fast as 1, and (zoinks!) 5 drives would be 16 times as fast!!! I'll take eleventy-teen in my system, please!

The above is purely sarcasm. If you took anything I said as truth, you should be punched in the jeans.

I'm in your thread going off topic!

Petch is correct(ish).  Adding additional spindle drives to RAID0 has three effects:

1) Increases throughput, this does not scale linearly.  Three drives capable of 100MB/sec read and write will not give 300MB/sec read and write.  A better controller will help here.

2) Increases access times, you now have another disk head that needs to get into position to get your data.  If these disks were SSD's you can ignore this point as their seek times are close to zero anyway, 30 x almost nothing is still almost nothing.

3) Increases failure rate, you now have an additional device that can fail in a system where a single failure completely bones you.

What this means for desktop performance?  Two spindle drives IMHO is the sweet spot for desktop RAID0 performance, you have the throughput, but you are starting to increase seek times and random IO, this will decrease the snappy performance of your system.

You may want to look at your controller, if you are using the onboard RAID controller there are throughput limitations, I am rocking a ICH10R and I am limited to ~600MB/s, adding an additional drive to my RAID0 would be pointless.  Those Raptors are pretty fast and its likely that you are going to be hitting a point of diminishing returns pretty quick.

Who wears pants to work anyways?

I'd actually be rather entertained if I didn't have the money and you pulled something like this.
