I got one of these a little while ago:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131408&cm_re=ion_motherboard-_-13-131-408-_-Product (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131408&cm_re=ion_motherboard-_-13-131-408-_-Product)
I upgraded and cant really use it any longer, comes in the original box with the manual and stuff. Lemmie know.
$100

Is it reliable? By that, I mean does it play 1080p .mkv over a gig network smoothly? Have you pushed the onboard video just to see exactly what it's capable of?
I've been wanting a dual-core Ion board for a while for the living room (or my room, depending on how I want to switch the machines out) and if you're willing to part with that for $100, then I'd be highly interested.
-
I used it as a HTPC, it does full 1080p x264 encoded blueray rips without issues. It offloads decoding video to the GPU with VPDAU and CPU usage during playback is like 10%.
I used Ubuntu with XBMC, there's a live CD version of it for ION machines that turns it into a HTPC appliance.

Zx2slow's comps are always well taken care of. I got a vieo card from him a while back and it was even packed in the original box and plastic. It was like getting a new card.
-
MMMMM tasty.
I'm waiting for my federal tax return to come in and once I get that and get my car repaired I'd be willing to buy that from you.
-
Seems I'll be getting my return on tuesday and will be trying to get my car fixed at the end of that week or during the following week. Would you mind holding the board until I get my crap cleared up? If you wanna charge a small "stocking fee" or whatever, that's cool.
-
Alright, let's do this. If you wanna, that is. I've got the cash if you've got the time.
-
I can ship it for $5 (I'm in Boston) or if you want to wait for the LAN ill have it there.
-
Boston?!?!? Pfff.... that's like 10 minutes up the road.
Just kidding. Yeah, the lan would be cool. I'd be a bit more comfortable getting it that way.
-
See you there.
-
Rock on!
-
btw, what's the power draw on this thing when it's going full-steam on a 1080p video? Rather, what's the power draw when it's 100% and has a hard drive running as well?
-
I dunno <50W? I had 4x3.5" and 1x2.5" HDD, the Motherboard/CPU, 4GB of DDR800, DVD-RW drive and a pile of USB devices running on a 180W PSU and it wasn't even close to pushing it.
-
Jeez. Soooo... my plan is to get a small (as in 32gig or so) SSD for it and as that would be the only thing running on it when it's on, it would suck up next to no power. There's a website that I would have to search for again that offers adapters for external psu's for small things like this and coupled with my empty xbox360 case, I might be able to pull off my master plan.
-
Ive seen these run off those power supplys that are built into the ATX24 power plug, this will need a 4 pin cpu connector as well.
This will do it, its 90W and has the CPU 4 pin ($33+Shipping):

You should be able to build it into just about anything that can fit the motherboard.
-
Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking of. Best part is that I measured out the 360 case a while ago and with a single SSD, it should all fit very cozy-like. Should be very silent and quite a neat factor for the first couple times a person sees a 360 that's not running, say, MW2.
-
I'm of the understanding that i'd have to also order this to work with it?

Yeah you will need a DC adapter to power it.
-
Nice. Looks like I'll have a fun project very soon.
-
Dude, I just checked in at the hotel and like it dawned on me that I totally forgot to bring the motherboard, ill talk to you at the event if you still want it ill ship it as soon as I get back Monday.
-
Uh-oh..... you must pay the ultimate price!!!
Quick, somebody come up with an ultimate price!!!
-
Vince gets to throw 5 snowballs at Zx? Shots to the nuts are rewarded with a free shot.
-
Hmmm.... good ultimate price.
-
So hey, since I handed you the cash at the lan when I can expect a tracking number from you? No rush or anything, but I just would like a general idea of when the board will get here.
Unless you took the money and ran, laughing like an evil genius.....
-
I just got home tonight, I will have it shipped out first thing tomorrow morning. I'll PM you a tracking number then.
-
Sounds good. Kinda sad about not getting an evil genius laugh, however.
-
Muhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuuhuh, check your PM for tracking details :p
-
Well, it got here and..... there's a ding in the product box?!?!?! I want a refund!!!!!!
I kid, I kid. Jesus, this thing is small. Gonna be a joy firing this up once I can buy ram, a ssd and that power brick. Though for the life of me I couldn't figure out what that little blue nub on the back above the usb port was until I read the book and saw that it's the BLUEtooth adapter.
HAR HAR!!!
-
Enjoy, let me know how your project makes out :)
-
Yarrrrr... I put the board in the empty case and it looks like the screw placements don't match up. I'll have to be creative about this one......
-
I used it as a HTPC, it does full 1080p x264 encoded blueray rips without issues. It offloads decoding video to the GPU with VPDAU and CPU usage during playback is like 10%.

Sorry to bring this post back after 3 weeks.
Right now I'm using TVersity as my MC. Been looking at other solutions. I use TVersity because of the !NATIVE! Hulu support. I was looking at the XBMC but couldnt find out if it supports hulu. Since you've used it can you tell me if it does? I used to actually have a dedicated machine for playback of movies over network and such but have since moved to the WDTV Live which I am very happy with. Hulu pretty much negates the need for a DVR. The WDTV live is a very small box. And I like to keep it as uncluttered as possible in the living room.
-
As of this moment, I don't believe it does. Last I perused the XBMC forums, I saw something about a user-developed plugin..... but that's about it. You'd have to check up on that in detail at the site.
That and native Netflix support are all that XBMC would need to dominate the universe.
