I'm trying to connect this usb wireless adapter via my desktop before I plug it into my new Raspberry Pi.

I installed the drivers, rebooted, plugged it in and Win8.1 sees it and I can select my network and enter the password, but..... it won't connect. Windows gives it "limited" connectivity. It sees local WiFi networks so I assume the hardware works fine, but I dunno why it won't take that last step.

Windows troubleshooter goes to restart the device and has also told me to reset the local gateway, but I know it works fine as A) the hardwire connection works fine (it's how this got posted) and B) my netbook has been connected and stays connected unless I manually shut things down (or skip my comcast payment for a couple months).

I don't think I'm missing anything. Plez halp! This is the last thing I need to get my RPi working the way I want it to.

Oddly enough.... I plugged it in, started it up (emulationstation -> F4 to exit -> startx to desktop), ran "wpa_gui" from the menu, scanned for my network, put in the password, waited and it eventually got it's own IP and internet now works on it.

Year of linux on the desktop.... or something. AMIRITE?
