im just curious. looking to buy a new monitor.
-
mine's 60 hertz (more than enough for games)
LCD's are usually much slower unless you break the bank to get a gaming LCD
**make sure the response time discription says "white to black" and not "white to grey" as some companys do to try to cheat you!**
-
That's the screen refresh rate.
-
whatever
-
60hz refresh on a crt is actually kinda bad. you would want 70+ on a crt or it'll make ur eyes tired.
-
well u know im cheap...
If you remeber the 50ml when a bf2 map took like
10 minutes to load. that says it all.
my pc needs a little help.

Personally I can't stand a refresh rate on a CRT under 85Hz. Maybe my eyes are just overly sensitive, but anything less and I notice the flicker. I typically have mine set to 100Hz just to be sure.
As far as a "response time" comparison to LCD's, you can't really do an apples to apples (or oranges to oranges if you don't like Macs ;) comparison of the two. It would be like comparing framerate to hard drive throughput, they're two different things.
An LCD gets it's response time measurement by how fast a single pixel can change from white to black (or the less accurate white to gray as noted above). A CRT doesn't change one pixel at a time like an LCD, it scans the entire screen, refreshing an entire line of resolution at once. The refresh rate tells you how often (per second) the screen is refreshed. An LCD has an artificial refresh rate of 60 Hz., though this is more for compatibility than anything.
There's more to it, but that's the basics.

ah.
i see.
so. whats a good lcd response time. for gaming.

8ms or less is great for gaming.

yo get the dell 2407 24" widescreen monitor. that thing kicks so much ass. one of the guys had one at the last york lan and i was blown away by how cool it looked and huge! Although you'll need a fast video card to run games in it's native resolution.
-
lol 24"
i don't think my wallet can take that much abuse.

A couple things on the subject:
1. I heard from someone that if you get a 6ms flat panel it is the same as a CRT. Don't remember where though.
2. The Dell 24" Widescreens don't impress me. For Example: they seem to have a high response time so often times you will see blur. If you are about to spend $600+ on a monitor you might as well do it right. It has a lower response time than the Dell, and it isn't a Dell! If you are going 30", then the Apple has a lower resposne time and a couple other benefits over the Dell!

The apple and dell use the same pannels, apple uses the higher grade ones though. Apple has nicer color though
edit: both the dell and apple 30" have 14ms response time, the dell 24" has a 16ms, apple has a 14ms
