which version of vista is better for gaming the 32bit or the 64bit? I know the 64 bit can use over 3gig of memory whereas 32 can't. but is there a performance hit because of drivers with that version?
-
I'm not sure of a performance hit. I'm using Vista ultimate 32. I didn't install 64 because there weren't enough drivers for it. But I seem to be a fluke with vista. I'm getting better performance in Vista(well except for GRAW) than I did on XP. Everyone else I talked to says their games run better on XP. *shrug* I wouldn't suspect much of a difference between the two, but don't know for sure.

It could also depend if you bought a copy from a retailer or if you have a bootleg copy. I don't know really, I haven't tried any of my games on Vista, just letting it sit there and not do anything eats half the memory.
-
Might I reiterate that you have no idea what you're talking about?
This "eating" of your memory is the SuperFetch service at work. Read something and learn: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/31/windows-vista-superfetch-and-readyboostanalyzed/page2.html#superfetch_the_uumlbercache

oops Pwned
I have noticed that GRAW runs like crap on Vista (Ultimate at least). Most of my other games seem to run about the same if not a few issues of hitching here and there, but that is probably that Pre-fetch, or other unecessary services I run whilst gaming.

Agent found something that might help you out with GRAW performance on Vista.
Take a look:

Ah ha! My archiving habit proves worthy!

I saw that post after I read this one. I'll DL it and give 'er a go.

Let me know if that fix worked for you. I'm curious to see how broad of a fix it is.

Well, I really didn't notice too much of a difference. Although I wasn't getting 5fps either. When I had XP it was between 40-50 average fps with all settings between medium and high. Under Vista I was getting 30-35 fps tops. It is playable, just not as good as under XP.
