I bought ut3 over steam, but I keep getting crashes. I haven't even been able to play a single second of gameplay without it crashing on me.
I installed the patch to take it version 2.0 and it came with the titan pack. Any body have any solutions?
-
Steam should have installed both those things for you. Maybe doing it manually caused some errors?
Right click on the game. Goto Properties. Go to Local Cache Tab. Then Click on Verify integrity of game cache.
I think that will double check your files. Also certain nVidia drivers have known issues. I would bomb out until I updated mine.
-
I don't know if I can help you, but there are alot of people on the steam ut3 forums who are having these issues. Maybe try checking them out. Right click on the UT3 link in your Steam games window and goto the game forums.
I guess the standards apply here:
Check your video drivers, audio drivers....make sure they are up to date yadda yadda.

I keep getting that message when I start UT3. Mine hasn't crashed on me yet. I think I will update my nvidia drivers anyway. Has been a month or two.
-
I updated the drivers, no avail.
The patch installed fine, but still no joy.
I even did some change in a config file as recommended on the UT3 forums and got nothing. WTF am I doing wrong that no one else here is? Rather I'd hold off on updating the drivers as people are screaming that the latest versions don't help, and neither does regressing to later versions.
-
Perhaps, through steam, delete local game content and re-download? Something funky is going on if you're grabbing it through steam and its not giving you the latest patched version.
...Sounds like some port-floating is going on.
j/k :)
-
So I did the cache checking as recommended by shoctor. I still crash only now at a very specific moment: When I am trying to log in to my UT3 account name. Maybe later today I'll try to uninstall and reinstall.
-
I would crash in the menus until I restarted and I know you've already restarted a few times though :\
-
I thought if you dloaded the steam version you shouldn't manually get the patch???? Steam should patch it for you. if your trying to run a downloaded copy of the patch over it then that might be whats giving you the prob!

That's what I said.

I was just reiterating your excellent Idea:)

As it stands now I can do multi player without a crash, but the campaign will crash my system pretty damn quick. I want to play the campaign though! I think it may be a port forwarding problem though. I went to portforward.com, but they didn't have anything on there that I should forward. It doesn't stop the game from telling me that I can't host matches though.
-
Ya shouldn't have to portforward anything if you're playing the campaign, or does it want you to be logged in even to play single player?
Crash or not, you`ll get owned tonight :) I`ll be on a tad later. Starting character generation for a Spirit of The Century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_the_Century) game I get to play in.
-
Actually I think I am gonna try to convince everyone to do BF2:HJ tonight. I have been missing that game lately.
-
I'll try and be on UT3 tonight.

I also found a setting to change that helped me. I was having a problem with the campaign crashing anytime a cinematic was playing. On the opening cinematic, it would always occur right as the dude was picking up the Unreal emblem from the ground. I could get by it by hitting ESC to skip the cinematic, but I like to watch them so I get a sense for what's going on with the back story. Later cinematics would also freeze, so I knew it wasn't just a problem with the opening.
Open UTEngine.ini, which can be found at My Documents\MyGames\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config. Find the line (I recommend using Ctrl-F) called
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False and change it to
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True
After making this change the cinematics played just fine. I could see a brief stutter where it used to crash (and throughout other areas of the cinematic) but it kept right on playing.
-
this is strange because I DL'ed UT3 from steam, using my retail cd key, and manually installed the patches, 2.0 first then titan pack, and I don't have any problems with my game at all. I can play both multi and campane.
