UT2k4 problem
« on: October 29, 2004, 12:13:12 PM »
I finally got some people on campus to pick up UT2k4.  A friend purchased the ECE and last night I tried to play a game with him hosting the game.  Now, I picked up the regular DVD edition and downloaded and installed the ECE bonus as well as the 3323 patch.  When I try to join a game that he is hosting on a Listen server, I get an incompatability error and it names something called   Engine.u

Has anyone seen this before or might know the nature of the error?

They ought to be.  I'll double check with this guy and confirm he did all the necessary updating.

Yeah if you get an engine.u system incompatibility error, it means you are running a newer version than the server is. The nice thing in UT2004 is the backwards compatibility with all of its patches. If the server is totally up to date, then anyone, even someone with the original version of the game can join.

I disagree with that statement

I don't. It is among the features of UT2K4, and i've tried it. It does in fact work. The only other way you'll get that engine.u error is if the persons machine was modified with some kind of mod or mutator... which is rare.

But it is a patching problem.

Pride, would you care to elaborate why you disagree? Because it is backwards compatable. I had a friend join my server with the orig version of the game. Epic even stated older patches work with newer servers. But it can't be the other way around.

Pride, you might want to listen to him on this one.

Put it this way....you work, what? 40-45 hours a week, and you're pretty good at your job right?

Agent probably plays UT 50-60 hours a week. That is his "job". I'm willing to bet he knows more about UT than anyone else in FITES.

p.s. 500th post! w00t!!!
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

So, if that is the case.. why is it at lanparties... so many people have problems connecting to your server if you have the latest version?

After they install the patch, they are fine.

It may be programmed that way... but I dont think it works 100% of the time.

ive never had that problem before, or after, that one instance. I still don't know what that was about. I think it was something with the lan, cuz there were people already all patched up and were having toubles even still. Tho they eventually got in and didnt have troubles from then on.
