Title: The DVD Player has some Voodoo
Post by: Mr.Tibbs on February 24, 2008, 09:52:25 PM
Problem:

Well this really isn't a problem just odd in my opinion.

I have been wanting the Star Wars Collection for a long time now. And I finally broke down and bought the 4-disc trilogy of the first 3 films. (IV,V,VI) And I took them upstairs to my sisters room because she has a dvd player. Now I have never heard of this make of dvd player. AWS is what it is called, anyways so I stick IV in. Looks great, I can enable and disable the subtitles without trouble.

Pop in V and I can't disable the subtitles at all, I'm serious I don't have the slighest idea. So I sitck VI in, and guess what I can turn them on and off at my leisure. So I think to myself well it has to be the player. So I take it downstairs to my computer with windows xp media center. And put it in and guess what I can disable the subtitles. Odd I say to myself, so I sitck it into my laptop with windows vista ultimate, considering it comes with media center built in. And same thing can disable and enable the subtitles, but it displays names at the top of screen like, burtts, or mendez, I have no idea. But yet it doesn't do that in xp media center. I figure who cares it was the dvd player life goes on. So I buy the last three movies today.(1,II,III) and one and two I can disable and enable the subtitles, and guess what episode three wont disable at all on that dvd player upstairs.

Anyone else find this odd, I mean episodes 3 and 5 won't disable subtitles on that dvd player. I mean why those why not them all or something. I haven't tried them on the other dvd player we have. And I know that it will work if I use xp media center, I just find this odd. I told Rathe this and he was floored, I am going to look up this AWS or whatever. And my own mother mentioned after I told her this that she and my sister have the same issue with that dvd player with certain dvd movies. Maybe I should buy her a new one or something.

Yes, that's odd.  Are you turning off the subs via the dvd setup menu or the movie 'setup' menu...or both?

Yep the dvd menu, but here is the thing I tried those episodes (3 and 5) in the downstairs dvd player. Which is a zenith dvd player and guess what? I can disable the subtitles, and enable them at my leisure. I mean what the hell man, I will just use that dvd player or windows media center. Bizarre.

it's because episode 3 was awful and episode five had too many remake edits in it. also, probably doesn't agree that cuddling inside taun-tauns is acceptable.

Speaking of which I wonder if there is a subtitle option on the dvd player itself. I haven't looked into that one yet. Maybe that is why they stay on. But it still doesn't make any sense why it is just those two episodes.

That's what I was getting at.  There are two types of setup menus:  One built into the DVD itself, and the setup on the DVD hardware.  The hardware usually will take precedense  precedence over the DVD disc menu setup.

I'm going to write you up with a warning, since you failed to replace the word entirely. Instead, settling to strikeout the word to publicly show that your original spelling was, in fact, wrong.

I would like to point out something. I am glad he noticed his error and corrected it. I am also impressed that he was brave enough to admit that he CAN learn! ;)

I only struck it out to prove that I do edit myself.  If it doesn't look right, I'll look it up.  That is all.

There is no need to prove that you edit yourself. Flaunting such blatant public displays of self spelling correction proves nothing and therefore warrants said warning. If you have any complaints to this warning, you may feel free to PM me with your grievances. Though, a response is by no means guaranteed.

NEXT!

Too funny!

I was looking for something like that avatar for you!  I just didn't want to post a nazi symbol with an "i before e except after c" deal.

Hey even with the subtitles option turned off, it still displays the subtitles anyway. So I really don't know what the hell is up with it.
