nVidia 56.56 WHQL
« on: March 13, 2004, 02:31:16 PM »
I found a new nvidia driver from guru3d.com that was actually microsoft certified. There aren't many beta drivers out there that are WHQL. Upon further investigation, nvidia was planning on releasing these drivers on Feb 28, but decided to pull back because of performance degradation on the UT2004 demo. But that was the ONLY bug. The game is coming out in a few weeks anyways.

I downloaded this driver to see what kind of changes were made. And, wow. It's like i bought a whole new graphics card. When playing gta3 with AA and AF turned up all the way I'm getting no graphical lag compared with the 53.03 drivers(which sucked with all settings max).

Battlefield also saw a major increase in performance. This is the best forceware update i've seen yet. You're probably wanting me to stop my babbling and give you a link. So here goes:

Feedback about your results would be welcome.

No it isn't (or wasn't) on the nvidia drivers page. only on the link i provided in my first post. That particular link was a download link. You had to click the "I Agree" link somewhere down the page and it would then bring you to the download page.

I'm not exactly sure what the difference between the 56.54 drivers and the 56.56 drivers. The 56.56 ones didn't come with release notes, si I have no clue.

EDIT: oh no wait..... it's 56.64? ohhhhhh. now i'll have to try those

Hey, i've had worse luck with ATI than nvidia. I'm through with em. They suck. Horrible tech support, they never run right in the system, and they have the uncanny urge to reinstall factory drivers for no reason.

If you want BF:V(if you have it) to look and play better.... ABSOLUTELY. BFV ships with the 56.56 drivers. I played it with the newest drivers and the graphics sucked bigtime. No bump-mapping, everything was blurred, but when i rolled back the drivers it was all crisp and ran smooth. Hmmm.
