New Video Card and Mobo?
« on: December 08, 2005, 07:36:15 AM »
I am getting my year end bonus soon... and thinking about putting a part of it into my PC.

I have a 3.0 GHZ pc with 1.0 GB of Ram.

I have an Abit MoBo with Raid (require raid) and SATA/IDE connections.

Problem is... I only have an AGP slot... no PCIE.

I am trying to figure out if it is worth buying a new card AND mobo just to get PCIE rather than AGP.

Your opinions?  :feedback:

Sorry, I stoped with the Intel camp long time ago

best bet is to get a Athlon X2, 7800GT, and a good mobo and be set for 3-4 years.

that's what I would do... good shopping!

Yes, new stuff is good stuff............
If you're getting a new video card, I would recomend pci-e.
You would be limiting yourself card wise and it's more future-proof.

Unless you're getting a great deal.

ummm errr, YES, get new mobo and video pronto as it's the right thing to do to treat your rig!! Ohh and get a real proc with the new setup and ditch the intel garbage! Bwahhahahaha, sorry, don't ban me for that last comment bro
You see,  I'm a hardware addict and upgrade every year to an almost new system so don't ever ask me if you should upgrade   :snicker: I can't stop buying new componets, I just love the new pcb sm3ll and firing up a new system gets my blood pumping faster then a shot of adrenaline!  You can ask my wife about my addiction, she hates it when I point my browser to new3gg, she just says ohh no, not again...

Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Bwahahhaahahahahahhaha you guyz are funny!   YEs, I may sometimes say something that seems a little harsh for a joke, but I mean no harm honestly as I'm a passive dude that just likes to get along. I don't like starting gay flame wars as thaat's the stupidist thing a n00b can do online so don't worry bro, I h8's flamers  :angryfire:
But yes, I do diss int3l stuff though for fun as I actually tried going back to the dark side for my last rig with a intel chip. The darn thing was nothing but a big heater that wouldn't perform worth poo compared to a 1 ghz less amd chip in gaming or video editing, plus you couldn't squeeze any overclocking out of it. Luckilly for my friend Kona, he smacked some scents  into me and brought me back from the dark side

yeah, I feel evil knowing apple is going to intel.

I'm an amd fan, and currently own no intel rigs faster than 1ghz

back to topic....

if you buy a 6800gt that will hold you over for a year+

but seeing as cards are switching to pci-e it may be wise to save for new mobo/chip, then buy a card.

if it were me i would buy the 6800gt and save for the other stuff

Naw, I used it to pay off all of my remaining debt (minus a little bit of college loan).
