Built an HTPC recently. Everything is all good and setup. Set my jadams approved pfsense box to assign 192.168.1.99 to that box via the MAC address. All is well for a while. All of the sudden, I can't see my HTPC box over RDP via IP anymore. Check DHCP leases and it is now getting an IP for guests ( I only allow 5 IP's outside the static leases). I check the MAC on the HTPC's adapter against my static lease MAC list. One octet (the 2nd) changed from the original 16 to 00. I thought it must have been my mistake somehow. A couple of reboots later it changes back to 16! I have seen it change several times now back and forth. The adapter is an on board Realtek rtl8169. Google really didn't help much.
As of now, the HTPC is leasing the 192.168.1.99 address yet the 2nd octet is 00 and this is after changing the static lease mac back to 16.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: So I updated the drivers even though Winderps potato said it had the most up to date drivers and after 1 reboot the MAC is staying the same. But we'll see how long it lasts.
