Most gay porn flicks are very large files. Like pentabytes of info. Tibbs told me this. So it may take a year for these to transfer for you.

Nics connected at full speed and full duplex?  Hard drives up to snuff?  Sounds like maybe one of the drives may be going bad.

Laptop is brand new. The other hard drive is a little slower that the laptop but not by much. I am wondering if its a network setting I am missing.  I have tried everything I know. Most of the gay porn was stolen at the last LAN I went to by some kid. It seemed kinda odd that the only gay porn that was stolen was guys having pool parties.

Did you disable wifi on the laptop before transferring? Even though you plugged in the ethernet between the systems, it almost sounds like it's still transferring over wifi.

Yeah did that. So that would not affect it if I connect them directly without the router. I am out of options.  I thought bypassing the router would have done it.  I had the same set up before but instead of the laptop I had an old pc and that worked just fine.

Two possibilities come to mind. As decepticon mentioned either hard drive problem or bad NICs. Easy checks to eliminate the NIC problems are two-fold:

1) Uninstall/re-install NIC's on both systems via Device Manager
2) open an administrative cmd prompt (right-click, runas administrator) and enter "netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.log" (without quotes).

The first part checks for corrupt drivers, the second part will reset your TCP/IP stack in Windows. You should perform these steps on both systems to have your bases covered.

If you're still having a problem then you may have a drive failing on you. The first indicator of a failing drive is slow performance overall (takes forever to startup, programs slow to launch, menus sluggish, etc). Give the NIC rehab above a try and if you're still having a problem post back here and I'll go into the hard drive remediation steps I go through in these situations.

BONUS: Temporarily disable any AntiVirus on both systems while doing the transfer. Some AV scanners hinder file transfer performance, especially when there are a lot of small files involved.

ok here is what i have found so far. If i uninstall the wireless netowrk driver i can transfer files over. still a bit slow but it works. Once i reload the driver in it works. How can i get past this without uninstalling all the time. Also even if i hit the button to turn the wireless off it still does not work for transfering files
