A question to PS3 owners
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:38:11 AM »
Do any of you have any experience fixing a bad blue ray drive motor?  The one that spins the disc.  I just acquired a 60gb PS3 for nothing and the only issue (and it's a big one) is that it won't spin discs.

I have experience in soldering and modding consoles, I just wanted to see if anyone else had any tips or whatnot.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I've replaced motors for the original PS1's a while back (if you remember the original PSX would die after like 5,000 hours of use. I ended up tearing apart the whole thing, ordered a new motor and soldered it back into place. Basically I just found a replacement by looking up the model # on the motor. I'm not really sure about blue ray as it may be a little more technical. Basically all I can recommend is take your time. The PSX motor I dealt with had a tricky snap in clip. It's not something you should rush. I wish I could help more

There prob is a guide or two on the interwebs on PS3. It was simple for me though as it was just a 2 prong connection

Yeah, I found a bunch of guides.  Just wondering if any FITES members had done this to a PS3.  I found a place that sells the ntire laser carriage and drive motor for $58, so I will probably order that one day soon.

Kind of hard to drop $50 when you gotta pay a mortgage.   So it's gonna wait until I generate the fundage.

Hey!  Yer not married (hence 'the reason as to why I don't have any money') so if I want any Crap outta you I'll squeeze your head!  ;P  Besides, if worst comes to worst, I'll just load a Linux distro on it and have it as an experimentation box (which can be reversed if I ever do get the parts I need).
