1st Gen iPhone help

Ok, first of all I will claim my ignorance, I have never once used an apple product of any kind beyond navigating the web, so I dont know wtf to do. My mom plopped her 1st gen iphone in my lap and said here do with it what you want. I wanted to turn it into an ipod touch, but I can figure out how to do that, do any of you guys know of a good guide for this? Thanks in advance for your help......

Isn't it already an ipod touch with a phone?  Just don't activate the phone.  I am not sure how itunes works with the iphone (like does the phone need to be activated in order to use other basic functions such as the ipod part).  But I am pretty sure all you need to do is wipe it and register it to your itunes account. Drop some mp3's in it using itunes and off you go.

Shoctor has an iphone I am sure he could help more than I can.  All I have is an iPod touch.

Yeah, it's weird cause it's not on a network, all it does is allow me access to emergency calls, if I want to disable that i think i need to do some crap, lol I'm not sure. Thanks though, hopefully shoctor will know.

A friend of mine dod some trick with t-mobiles pay as you go data plan and skype, he jailbroke the phone and pays $20/mo for unlimited data and he uses skype as the phone rather than minutes on the plan.  I think he said theres a thing on lifehacker about it but I couldn't find it.

I'm trying to find a jailbreak guide that doesnt speak to me like im a lifetime mac user, ive really only used itunes once, i dont even have an account lol. HLEP HLEP! :p

Just in case anyone is curious, I used Blackra1n, and it one click jailbroke my iphone. It was badass.
