older intel/amd dual-gpu laptop
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:34:57 PM »
Had to let others know about something that really saved the day for my parent's laptop.  They upgraded to Windows 10 on an older HP laptop with the switchable graphics (between the built-in Intel and a discrete AMD).  That solution was always a problem and with Windows 10, it actually caused the laptop to take 2-5 minutes to boot, another 2-3 minutes to suspend or return from suspend, etc.  The culprit was an older version of the Catalyst drivers that neither HP nor AMD would provide an updated version that would install (drivers straight from AMD detect that it is an HP and refuse to install).

Solution was some modded drivers:  http://leshcatlabs.net

They specifically support this type of scenario, Intel/AMD switchable drivers.  They take the latest drivers from Intel and AMD and hack the ini/inf to allow them to install in addition to some other mojo.

Running a drivercleaner tool, then installing the latest LeshCat driver fixed the issue.

Had to share.
