Counter Strike Problems
« on: July 18, 2006, 06:50:17 PM »
So I bought a copy of counter strike source online. And it didn’t have a CD-Key so I returned back for a whopping 11 Bucks.
I then bought another copy of CSS on Amazon and it seems the seller already registered it on a brand new steam account named “Krutarth007” and on top of that when I Login
I get a prompt saying “this steam account has been disabled”

Contacted Amazon. They said the couldn’t help. And steam hasn’t replied my support Inquiry for a week now.

Any Advice?

That is one very odd story, for one I never heard of a steam game not having a cd key given to you when you buy a product. Here is what I would do, well two things actually. One you can go buy a copy of HL2, thus you get Source and HL2 DM. Or you can hit up a local Wal-mart, Circuit City, Best Buy which ever you prefer and get a copy from them. Circuit City has it for 20 bucks last time I looked. That is if you really want to spend anymore money, your probably on your wits end, just thinking out loud there. Or you can wait for steam and see what they say. I am quite curious, hope that helps.

Keygen most likely. ALWAYS BUY STEAM PRODUCTS ONLINE FROM THE STEAM BROWSER!  You can get the steam installer and setup a new account in 5 minutes. Then pay the nice software your $20 and wait for it to download and be done with it.

Get Steam

It includes what ever you pay for and it downloads it. If I wipe my machine clean. Download and run the installer. Login with my username. ALL THE GAMES redownload. All the ones I bought anyway.

:EDIT:
That's almost 25 gigs of stuff that I don't have to keep around. You also have the option in steam to right click and make a backup of local game data!

When I worked at Walmart... (ugh..) Electronics dept, I had a kid come to me with a recipt and an opened HL2 box. He proceeded to tell me that the discs inside were fake and that he wanted to exchange it for another unopened box.

I said helllllllz no. (because I knew the trick..get another box, another CD key, give to a friend or sell.)

So I looked at the CDs asked what was fake about em..he said they were Earthlink Installation CDs with fake printed out HL2 disc labels on em.

Uh huh...sure..

Upon closer inspection and a little picking with my finger nail, i revealed 5 Earthlink CDs.. nice job kid.

So I offered to exchange them for 5 new HL2 cds only. He keeps the CD key and all that. Surprisingly, he wasn't pissed.. So, with an eyebrow raised, I went and got a new box, opened it, took out the 5 cds and looked at em.

They looked funny. The labels were kinda..fake looking. More finger nail action revealed (GASP) 5 Earthlink Installation CDs. The box was totally sealed and everything before I opened it, I made sure to check.

We went through 8 boxes until we found a set that wasn't fake. Turned the fakies over to Loss Prevention and I assume they took care of it (which means they did nothing and went back to watching the hotties come outta the ladies changing rooms).

That sounds crazy.  Do you think it was from the WalMart DC?  They have shrink wrap machines, etc there.  Or do you think it was further up the chain in manufacturing?
