Has anyone else been getting logged out of the forums constantly? I access the forums from 2 or 3 different computers throughout the day and everytime I switch a computer I have to log in again. I used to always be logged in whereever I was. What changed?
-
Nothing.
You aren't the only one experiencing it but I have yet to recreate the issue.
I stay logged in across 3 machines.
UPDATE: I was just taking a peek at FireFox version numbers... I am running 3.6.13 on my machines... Could be a FireFox thing?
-
Yeah, I have not experienced this unless I access them from a machine I never accessed them from before...for obvious reasons.
-
UPDATE!
Well, it looks like there is a bot out in the wild brute forcing SMF Passwords... And as it tries (and fails) it revokes your current logon... I am guessing this doesn't happen to me because my display name is different than my logon name.

I think that's why it doesn't happen to me either.
-
Well from what I read on there it seems that they decided to use a mod to force using email addresses for login and that seems to have stopped the bot dead.
-
The thing I am afraid of with installing that mod it will break the social logon. And being so close to an event it could break things worse than just having to logon again.
-
Weird, it just happened to me....
-
Interesting. Yours might be something different. Your account wasn't logged as bad password attempted.
-
Whatever it is, it's hitting me. Not that it's a problem, but yeah.
-
I can confirm it's happening to me with Chrome. I thought it was a Chrome thing because I just recently started using it as my main browser.
I'd say let's just deal with it for now as it's only being a nuisance and not a true security risk. We can try to implement that mod after the LAN.
Edit: As a workaround for the time being, you could always change your display name slightly, as I have here. That should buy you some time.

Added to .htaccess... HOPEFULLY it will slow them down just a little. I will dog ear the log to see if I catch more moving forward. If it stays bad I will add the mod to logon by email address after the event. SMF as a whole needs an update too, but last time I did that it broke the store and made more work for me. ;)
-
I miss the store.
-
The store?

I decided to do the same thing as well. Hopefully it will quit now that my name is changed.

The store?
remember back when we had the karma counter and the store where you could buy rocks and band-aids to bloody other peoples posts among other things.
-
Yeah... I made the rocks... I will look into a new version.
-
yea it's happening to me as well im using the infamous IE8

I think the number you are looking for is 3 pfsense machines, if properly clustered together. If they arent properly clustered they wont be able to handle the amount of requests sent by the webserver to keep you logged in.
-
Oh, I only have a 2 node cluster, I will add at least two more ASAP!!!
-
I hate you all.
-
I miss the arcade
-
You'll need at least 6 pfSense boxes to handle all of the packets to support an arcade.
....let the hating continue ;)
-
The only arcade around here that I know of is the one in the West Manchester Mall. Haven't been in it in forever, but I do know that they have a Star Trek Voyager (the 7 of 9 show) game.
-
A voyager arcade game?!?!?!!??!!!!1one
Quick search: http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=12708 (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=12708)
Looks like Elite Force just in an arcade. Cool though.
-
There's a decent sized arcade in the Harrisburg Mall too, but I don't know what games they have. Haven't been in there in a long time.

I second that! I dropped a lot of tokens in that back in the mid 90s.
-
I will third that!
-
I used to play this one pinball machine called The Black Knight. that was one kick ass machine.
-
I suppose when I go in to get the Dawn of War 2 expansion on march 1st, I'll have to see exactly what all the WMM arcade has in it.

When we lived overseas my dad bought this pinball machine for the house. He rolled the score over on it once or twice after playing it for years.

BACK ON TOPIC:
It should be fixed now.
SMF Release a security patch for other stuff and made it not log out people already logged in.
-
Oh, I changed my screen name as a workaround already...
-
Whoa, I really wouldn't suggest using your actual name on a public internet forum like that. Anyone could come along and steal your identity with that kind of information!
-
Oh Baron. You are a pile of lulz.
