Title: Comcast Throttle bandwidth
Post by: The Nstuff on January 18, 2010, 08:31:56 PM
Just wondering if anyone else here has experienced this..  I downloaded around 5Gb today and all of a sudden my normal 30Mbps / 10Mbps @ 20ms ping has gone to 210Kbps / 170Kbps @ 465ms ping.

I thought I heard Comcast was doing some usage throttling (above and beyond the monthly 250Gb cap) and apparently they are... slightly old article on it:

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced Mother ComNBCastic throttling? (attached pic of speedtest.net for pic-proof-goodness)

I saw something similar when I was clobbering my bandwith at a peak time.

I know I've come pretty gosh-darn close to hitting the 250 cap, but haven't seen my down or up speeds flux on either standard or torrent downloads. I just ran speedtest to both philly and d.c. and got a solid 18/6 with 22 ping on both.

Nstuff, it's more likely there were just some problems in your area. Once the problems were fixed, your speeds returned to normal.
