For a friend....
« on: February 24, 2009, 12:44:54 PM »
A friend of mine who is a computer graphics artist has succumb to the crappy economy and has lost his job.  It could not come at a worse time as he and his wife are about to deliver their first child.  He is looking for work and is trying all avenues of opportunity and I thought I would help him out wherever I can.

I know that some of you are in the field and I thought I would throw his resume your way just to see if there are any possible openings in that particular field.  He was working in Baltimore so the drive down to there is inconsequential to him.  I have attached his resume for you to review and possibly pass on to your HR department for consideration.

Thanks for taking a look.

Yes his name is Steven Segal and no he does not know judo or karate.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I don't know if my company is hiring for graphic artists, but they are actually growing right now (despite everything).

he could go to this link and post his resume
https://sjobs.brassring.com/1033/ASP/TG/cim_home.asp?wbsessionid=47A81E40-3450-4CAE-A23E-1AFA7EBCA92D&partnerid=25131&siteid=5173

Below is the main website of the company. They have offices in many locations across the country. They are mainly an engineering company, but they do have graphics people in their marketing offices.

If he is a graphic designer, I suggest that he improve the graphic quality of his resume. It looks like not much time was spent on the visual aspect of it, although keep in mind that the final output should look simple.
At the very least, it should be contained to ONE page. This could be accomplished by using simpler language, and by removing stuff. There is probably too much information in there, and trimming it down would probably help the reader focus on the most important aspects of what he is all about.

I recently lost my job and had to find a new one. I graduated from college a year and a half ago, so I thought that would make me a marketable commodity. Unfortunately for me though, I have observed that many companies out there are aware that (for whatever field they work in) there is a large pool of unemployed EXPERIENCED professionals (who were laid off from failed smaller companies), so many companies are on the prowl to improve their staff of experienced professionals, more so than recent graduates. Based on your friend's resume, this might be a good thing for him! My job search lasted 4 months from layoff to new hire. Hopefully your friend won't have to go without a job for that long!

I really have no idea if the people I'm working for are hiring. Since I am technically freelance (but do projects for the same two companies over and over), I doubt I could ask. But will check regardless.

Thanks for the input, I will pass the info along to him.  And thanks agent for checking regardless of the outcome!
