C&C Generals Zero Hour
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:36:15 AM »
C&C G ZH freezes randomly and also lags when playing single player larger maps.  Anyone got a clue.  I want this fixed so if we play at the LAN, all is good.
My rig runs solitaire on ultra high resolution!

Not sure. I don't like the game, so I didn't play it to much extent as to find bugs like that.

How much memory do you have?  I remember reading where Supreme Commander would actually use up more than the 2gb limit per application and would crash without warning.  Arse or Anand did an article on it one time.

Also, according to here:  http://www.megagames.com/news/html/patches/command&conquergenerals-108patch.shtml
From the patch notes:

3. VIA CHIPSET USERS

We found that users with VIA motherboard chipsets for AMD and Intel CPUs will encounter crash problems with Command & Conquer Generals. If you own such a motherboard, please go to http://www.viaarena.com and download the latest 4-in-1 drivers. If you continue to experience problems with the game after installing the 4-in-1 drivers, download VIA's version 4.38 of the 4-in-1 drivers. Not having the correct VIA drivers could manifest itself in the form of a "Serious Error" message, and/or a blue screen crash.

But you played Kanes Wrath before at the lan and it never crashed. Or is this a different rig?

I never had issues with Generals or Zero Hour. That is odd that the patches dont fix your problems. But that whole VIA chipset thing makes sense.

A comrade of mine had this problem. Kinda. though it crashed on just about any map. We somehow (don't recall. it was 3 years ago) traced the problem to it being his ATI video card and just used a different patch version (1.4 worked).
