So I was having some issues with it not showing up in the LAN server browser. We always had to connect manually. I made some changes to the startup line and now it shows up in the server browser but it just hangs on connecting.
Here is my startup config:
C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3 (Dedicated)\binaries\UT3.exe server dm-arsenal?
maxplayers=32?minnetplayers=0?
numpublicconnections32?
numprivateconnections=32?
numopenpublicconnections=32?

game=utgame.utdeathmatch?
name=XXXXXXXX?
alias=XXXXXXX?
AdminPassword=XXXXXXXX
-port=7777
-lanplay
-log=dedicatedserver.log
-login=XXXXXXXXX
-password
I THINK my problems exists because in the server info on the LAN Server browser there is no IP specified. The IP line is just blank. I didnt have an IP line in my startup config before. So I'm not sure what the syntax for adding one is. -ipaddress x.x.x.x ?
Think someone could decipher it or perhaps share FITES's startup config, it would help greatly.
Thanks so much!

and yes.... i was stupid enough to not make a backup before i edited :cussing:
-
If I recall, the browser issue is a known bug :(
-
Thanks for the response Czar. I had heard that before as well in prior troubleshooting. I'm relieved I actually got it to show up int he browser now, but id rather go back to before when I could at least connect to it manually.
-
NStuff knows your pains all too well :)
-
well.... I got it working. Not sure how or why. Anyway I'm using this as my startup line:
cd C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3 (Dedicated)\binaries\

It very well may have been the addition of the -serverip variable. I tried -ip, -ipaddress before it and it didnt work. Initially when first setting the server up months ago I was having trouble with the LAN browser issue. When I created a dedicated server from within the game, I'd then load up another instance of the game and could see it in the browser, as could everyone else. But when trying the startup configs i found throughout the internet they all failed on me, most of the time the server wouldnt even start. So I copied exactly the startup config that was generated when I created a dedicated server from within the game. Not sure why that same config would cause the server to show up in the server browser when I hosted it locally, but not so when on another machine. UT3 has always been the most finicky server we have.
If NStuff wants to give that startup a try. I assume by your comment that he runs the UT3 server. Hopefully it can fix any headaches hes running into.
-
Sounds good to me i was just trying to pressure him into doing the ut3 server again!
-
I can make it easy for you guys. I can just send over the vhd
Its 28GB. Runs on Hyper-V, but you can run the VMWare physical to virtual converter (even though its already virtual) to get a VMware vhd.
Its also joined to my lab domain. I can unjoin it and make a local user. Should work :D

Hey Krakah, didn't see this post until today. If you have any issues with UT3, let F3ar0n or I know. We've both struggled with them. Not to say other servers don't suck, but UT3 has got to be one of the worst servers I've ever dealt with.
One issue I haven't been able to get around is allowing steam-based UT3 clients to connect to a dedicated server without getting dropped. Typically they can connect on first startup of the server, but on a map change, most will get booted and can't rejoin. Only work-around is to leave UT3 running, alt-tab to windows, load up task manager and kill steam.exe, then alt-tab back into UT3 and you'll be able to connect fine.
I opened a ticket with Epic and Steam and they eventually came back saying it's a known issue and they'd post something if it's ever fixed. It never has been.
-
Thanks for the response!
I have UT3 through Steam. I'm able to connect to our server and play through several rounds without disconnecting. I believe we never had this issue as we all have Steam as well and have played on it a few times together. I'm gonna load it up and play a little just to make sure.
Add me to steam: jaredmadams We can discuss it further if you want.
The server should be publicly accessible. ping jaredmadams.ath.cx to get the IP. Finally getting us a static next month :D. I have all the ports forwarded but I have no clue if it shows up in the Internet server browser. Was never a concern as I never had the intention of making it public to anyone other than the people who know about it.
-
I actually have an itch to play some UT3 now..
-
Just messaged you on steam Czar.
Hop on with the info above! I'm in there testing it out.
-
Well the server seems to be functioning as well as it possibly could. It shows in the LAN server browser. You can join from it. It doesnt suffer from Steam clients getting disconnected as nstuff's did.
The VM uses 4 cores of an i7 920 and is allocated 1GB of RAM. Even with 32 bots running around in there killing each other it only uses runs around 8%-15% CPU usage. Thats far better performance than what I get out of CSS.
Thanks to Czar and nstuff for helping me test it tonite!
-
lets do some UT3 tonight??? we'll test krakahs server for him in the process!
-
I'd actually like to play some UT3, yo.
-
Unfortunately I wont be around until much later tonite but go ahead and play with out me if you like. Testing it for me would be much appreciated.
Since I dont know if the server shows up in the Internet server browser, and you cant join by hostname, you must ping either jaredmadams.ath.cx or www.meanyfaceclan.us (http://www.meanyfaceclan.us) to get the IP address. Go into the Internet server browser and at the bottom you can connect by IP. Kinda lame, but its really just supposed to be for LAN play.
The WebAdmin is @ www.meanyfaceclan.us:8000 (http://www.meanyfaceclan.us:8000). I told Czar the super secret login/password, but if it was forgotten I can message it to someone. That way you can add bots, maps, gamemodes, whatever.
I might try to add some custom maps while I have some downtime at work.
-
Kewl, Can't wait to play some dust storm. I always liked that map a lot!
-
24/7 Face Classic. The only map that should run on a UT3 server
-
damn i over slrpt last night and missed out but i should be around tonight

BUMPING!
http://www.mgphilly.com/?page_id=132 (http://www.mgphilly.com/?page_id=132)
After I moved my hardware to its new location I've started brining our servers back online. I've pretty much been re-building them from scratch the CORRECT way.
Just got the UT3 server up and running. Everything works, according to the random pubs that join and shankdog it shows up in the master list, which is great! I have over 7GB of custom maps and its all connected to an HTTP redirect for fast download. Not super blazing fast as its on the same connection as the game server.
My problem now is that after the round I cant get gametype voting. I cant get mutator voting either, though I'd rather that be turned off anyhow. All the maps I have are going to waste as you can only vote on the TDM map list. There are some pretty awesome CTF and VCTF maps I'd like to be able to vote on, but the box where you should be voting on gametypes is just blank.
Any idears?

Startup string, I think the answer might be in the bolded variables below. Though I dont know what variables to put in there.

krak, just wanted to point out that I rarely see people update threads with what they did to solve issues... good form, jack, good form!
-
I absolutely HATE with a passion when people post that they solved something on a forum and they dont say how they did it!!
I want to put my fist through my monitor, hope it comes out their monitor, and punches they straight in the face.
For instance.... Since, as i noted in my earlier post, i moved my router and other hardware to a new location with more bandwidth and a static ip..... So here at home I was looking for a router and wanted to try this:
http://weblog.mrbill.net/archives/2009/07/26/building-the-perfect-routerfirewall-for-45/ (http://weblog.mrbill.net/archives/2009/07/26/building-the-perfect-routerfirewall-for-45/)
pfsense on a low power thin client. all parts cost around $45.
anyway i had a problem booting it. and with my limited knowledge of *nix i headed over to the pfsense forums and posted this
http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,48991.0.html (http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,48991.0.html)
I had to twist dLocker's arm to get an actual DETAILED explanation of this problem that he claimed he had an resolution to. Last post shows what a REAL resolution post should looklike

LOL, I like how you made it abundantly clear that you SOLVED the problem ;)
