BF2 Patching Issues
« on: February 06, 2006, 07:35:55 PM »
Ok guys

I'm sorta getting nervious because I can't seem to get my comp to sucessfully patch BF2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 4 times now. The only thing I havn't done is reinstall the patches 1 by 1 (instead of trying to go straight to 1.03, go to 1.01 and 1.02 and so on)

Anything you may find on getting BF2 to patch right or any issues you may come across from other users who have had issues, lte me know. I'll lte you know if I get it to work, but I truely doubt it. I have a feeling i'm gonna have to try something more technical to get this thing to work.

Your thoughts

BF2 Patching Issues

Yes, I bought it myself way back at the 1st 50 man I attended. Since then though I have had to uninstal and reinstal windows about 4 times because of spyware issues.

I'm having major issues with patching games for some reason. I don't know if my version of windows is unsupportive of something like .net framework or what. Anyway, just tried installing the patch the long way, still didn't work. Then I tried to manually patch bf2 by extracting the patch.exe dll file and rtd files need for the patch, run them in the bf2 folder to patch through dos framework. Still no luck

Any help would be appriciated

Well, are you getting an error or something? Expand a little on the problem.

The fact you have had to reinstall windows 4 times due to spyware issues concerns me.  Are you sure its spyware that is causing you problems?

Does the patch install, then just not work?  Do you get a specific error while loading the patch?

it stats simply that "patch failed" after sitting for around a minute or two. What happened was that I had a spyware issue, so I formated and reinstalled. Something ended up messing up the second time I tried to install so I had to reinstall all over again. Then I picked something up and my cmo was really buggy and slow, so I formated and reinstalled again. Take note that I did get a few errors while installing but I ignored them and it was ok.

I'm thinking those errors are whats causing this issue. so I'm gonna format and install everything yet again before the lan (might have to pull an all nighter or two)

It does not give any error message like a windows error message would so it's not like I can look up the error code and find out the issue. Anyway, I think the format and reinstall of xp should fix everything, but it bums me out that  I have to do this yet again

I hope my hd isn't failing...

So I woke up early this morning and did a complete format of my comp. I then continued by installing a brand new win xp prof. The first time I tried to install it however, it gave me a blue screen memory dump. I seem to get a lot of memory dumps these days.

I ended up reboooting and oc'ing my processor and increasing my ram. I'm thinking that my system is unstable, so I boosted it up .1 v and oc'd my processor just for the fun of it.

I have the temp running around 30, but when I oc it, It only rises about 2 degrees. Figure I might as well keep it like this and take adavantage of the oc'ing. It was at 2.4 but is now at 2.6. not a bad ocfor only 2 degrees warmed

Anyway, I also deleted the partition and created a brand new one with a brand new ntfs part. I got through installing xp with no glitches and am back up. So now I'm at the point of reinstalling all my games over again and patching them all (or attempting to patch them all)

I'll let you know if this new fresh xp install has fixed my problem or not. Thanks again Czar for the techie help

Dave

Memory dumps on a fresh install is a bad sign.

It hasn't happend yet for this fresh install, but it happend all the time for the previous install of windows I had... I think thats the main reason I was having issues to begin with as far as patching and stuff. This fresh install seems to be really good for now

Another small tip for you...

When trying to troubleshoot and track down seemingly random crashes like you are describing, run at stock speeds. I once had a mobo that was very unstable with even a 1Mhz OC of the FSB, but at stock it was rock solid.

After you get things working correctly and are satisfied with thing, then try OCing. That way you know if the problems come back, it's most likely with the OC and not software. In other words, test one variable at a time.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!
