Installing a SATA drive with ATA drives
« on: January 01, 2005, 01:30:30 PM »
I'm trying to install a SATA drive on my system but it's not being recognized. From what I've read online I should be able to use it with my regular ATA drives (not in a RAID configuration though). Well, it's not being detected and I don't know what I should do. The motherboard manual mentions nothing about a setting in the BIOS to tell it to look for a SATA drive (the board is a socket 478 and yes, it DOES support SATA plu RAID configurations 1 and 0). Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you doing a fresh install of windows? If so you might need to hit "f6" during the begining of the windows install and it will prompt you for a floppy with the drivers on it (should have come with mobo, if not look on the CD) and then select them and go from there as normal.

What is the mobo/os?

if you are just adding a drive (assuming windows xp/2k) and you have the sata drivers installed (controlor shows up in device manager) goto Start> settings> control pannel > Administarative tools > computer management > storeage > disk management, and see if the dirve (without partitions and stuff) can be seen in there. If it can format and partition it by right clicking on it and then you should be good to go

or if you need any more help feel free to im me
