6600 LE into a 6600 GT?
« on: May 04, 2006, 06:07:49 PM »
Hey guys I just bought a new video card a EVGA 6600 LE 256MB, I want to turn it into a GT. Little insight on making it into a GT, from all I hear is you need a BIOS of a GT and flash it to it. But I would like a detailed version of this as it is the first time I have done such a thing.

I am gonna sell my old one a MSI 5900XT 128MB. Put that up later pictures and all.

Yes, it's that easy.  I dont think the 6600le has any pipes to unlock tho.

6600 LE into a 6600 GT?

Ok I found a BIOS for the 6600 LE on the evga website. Now the GT they have there is only 128MB and it is using a 128 bit interface. And the GT on there is only 128MBs. So my question is if I took that bios from that website and flashed it to my 6600 LE, would I get the clock speeds from that.

The GT uses dual Ramdacs, my LE only has one. Would that screw things up, the GT clocks at 500 on Ramdac and 900 on the memory. Just need to know if this is going to screw up the card. I get my LE monday, so please people feedback.

If you aren't actually unlocking anything (pipes etc.) why don't you just simply OC the card??

I want it to run like a GT, you honestly think that a LE will go to 500 on the ramdac when it is at 400 and 1000 on the memory, when the memory starts at 300?

It will fry way before that, I want it to clock like that from the start, because I know it will never get that far. Prove me wrong anyone.

What is the difference in how you clock it??  you are at the same clock speed either way.  does it really matter whether you flash it to a GT or oc to one??

em maybe you just should have bought a gt?

but ive looked into it abit... it seems some people have flashed le to gt but i have only found one and it was very iffy... but it seems unlocking the other 4 pipes works pretty well... i would try unlocking the pipes and seeing how high you can get the clocks...

... if that dosent work buy my 6800 :)

Here is the one I am planning on purchasing.

Its a GeForce 6800 GS that is overclockable to a GT.  If you check out the user reviews, you will see alot of people talking about being able to overclock this card.  One of the programs they mentions is rivatuner.  They also mention other ways to do it as well.  I don't know how easy it would be to overclock your card in particular but perhaps this might be helpful.
