Title: "remember me" no longer functioning in IE 7
Post by: Broken on June 21, 2011, 07:45:19 AM
Not sure wtf is up. IE7 bugged out on me here the other day and now the "remember me" function no longer works. Worse yet, during a browser session I can find myself getting logged out. (i.e. here, I logged in, tried to make this post, and found myself logged out before I got it typed out).

I checked all cookie settings I could, even resetting all browser settings and cycling through options all to no avail. Some times I can go back to a site a few times (closing browser in between) with no issues over the course of 1-2 hours, then the next minute poof i have to log back in.

Does anyone know of anywhere else I can check to see what might be going on? If feels like a cookie issue, but I dont know if its a problem with the browser itself or if work decided to run some new F'd up program to kill the user data.

FF doesnt seem to have a problem, but both IE7 and FF are regularly out of date on the work machines (slow to implement) and I cant exactly go to HD asking for help getting non company sites to remember me.

If this is your work computer, I'd suggest deleting your user profile and then having it recreated at next login. Backup anything in your Desktop and Favorites first!!! Also backup My Documents if your company is not already re-directing them to a file server like we do. We have a nice little script that I wrote that does all of this for us automagically :)

When you bring this up with your Help Desk, you don't really have to specify that you're trying to stay logged into FITES, just that it's not keeping you logged in (i.e., session cookies are not behaving).

You'll have to have an admin do this for you if you're only a standard user.

Thanks Sully. I am busily searching for a work related page that is acting this way.

We are pretty locked down when it comes to maint on our profiles and blowing them away actually has some pretty big consequences on certain systems. It also doesnt help that our HD is of the mindset that if they dont see it happen, it didnt happen and the reporter is a moron to be ignored for 2 weeks until they send a follow up email asking if it is still an issue : )

Pretty much... Hell man, no joke, I had one of them tell me I was having an ID10T error... I told the bitch I was not amused, knew that that meant, and that I was friends with her boss.

Not to give away any IT secrets, but I like to say your computer is on a PICNIC (Problem In Chair Not In Computer). Most people won't know that I'm calling them an ID10T ;)

Too many people know PEBKAC and ID10T...I have to use something a bit more esoteric to stay under the radar.

Ha-ha thats like my Parent's neighbor who was creeping in the bushes outside their house. When they told me about it, I stopped by while he was mowing his lawn. I went out to get their mail with my AR10 and HK strapped to me. When he looked over I smiled and said I like to hide in the bushes too... think about it you piece of Crap...

He stopped creeping : ) Good thing too because I was hiding back there that weekend in a ghillie suit waiting for him.
