The new patch is live and at means private lobbies, friends lists, and racing! Also the 350R and m50 are usable in Arena Commander mode.

Looks like private lobbies are currently suspended while they patch some bugs.

I'm not too upset about that, since it is alpha after all. Better to have it down and being fixed than wait forever and wonder why your lobby keeps crashing.
