Let's celebrate 10 years of Battlefield by playing the original 1942 which was recently made available for FREE via Origin... please download / install / setup prior to the event this Saturday night @ 8:00PM

Also, we will use our Mumble server, details here:

I'm so torn on this. I love BF1942. We had some really epic battles on Omaha Beach, Coral Sea, Battle of Britain, and El Alamein maps back in the early days of FITES, but I REALLY do not want to use Origin to get/play it. So I'm TBD on this for now.

I agree with Sully, not big on the idea of using Origin.

I don't want to hijack my own thread, but what's the problem (TL;DR version) with installing Origin to download a free game?

I just don't want to have to use origin to play said game in multiplayer. I still have my original copy of BF 1942  so I don't need the "free" copy. So as long as I don't need Origin to play with you all I'm down.

Ahh, gotcha.  I think I read somewhere that the server browsers are different (as in playing through Origin displays Origin only BF1942 servers), but no harm in trying, will look out for ya tomorrow night :)

yea Shank it seems that a lot fo the fites guys hate origin....  i dont but i've tried to reason with them to no avail.  To me origin is the same as steam or at the very least very similar.  To them origin is EA.  I understand they dont like EA because i dont really like them either.  But I do like some of the games that are origin exclusive and i will use it to play those games.

EA is just..... it's bullCrap with the way they've acted, with the way they command DICE around.... most notably the recent thing with that code that got leaked and then *not* punishing the countless number of people who duped the system to get many free games. If I could dump origin I would, but BF3 has turned out amazing in my opinion and as that's the only game I have installed that actually uses origin then I can put up with it for the 1-3 times a month that I actually have the time and waking hours to put into BF3.
