New in town (Pittsburgh) from New Mexico
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:25:45 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm glad to have found a lan party reasonably close to me.  I've been lanning for 15 years now, including LANFests back in New Mexico.

How's the internet connection for FITES?  I ask primarily for ransacking an online BF3 server if LAN support isn't available.

Anyway, I play BF3 http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/Sinvision/] http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/Sinvision/ , TF2, Track mania 2, and plenty of other random steam games.  Hit me up if you want to play BF3!

Looking forward to the lan!

Welcome.

I will defer to Sully on the size of the pipes : )

There are a bunch of us who play BF3 regularly... check out the BF3 thread over in the General Forums.

I bring the fat pipes with me :)

We always have the currently fastest cable modem from Comcast for the LAN. Right now that would be a 105/10 connection, so plenty of bandwidth to go around. IIRC, I ran a speedtest last year at the peak of our WAN utilization and it still measured around 5Mb. Remember, latency, not speed, is what is important when gaming.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums of the best LAN party in PA :)

A bunch of us have been playing BF3 on Friday nights around 9ish, so feel free to join us all in the FITES TS server!

If you are now living in the Pittsburgh area, you will also want to check out PITTCO (www.pittco.org) who also hosts quality large scale LANs.  I believe their next event will be in April.

Ya, I'm waiting for Pittco.  I actually found this lan through their facebook page.

The last lanfest in NM had major issues with bandwidth at our Intel host site.  :bigcry:

Apparently, I cant post links well.   :headscratch:

I think the forum waits till you have a few more posts before allowing links. It's one of the newer anti-spam measures.

Welcome! We're always glad to see new folks come through. Our Teamspeak server is very active and most of the staff members and regulars can be found there just about every night aroud 9pm`ish. Friday and Saturday evening it's rather well populated. Stop in and don't be a stranger (we're all rather strange though...). Server info can be found on the bar of the front page. Also, while you're on the front page, join our steam group and facebook page to keep up to date on the latest stuff.

I believe this Friday night around 9:30pm (we're having a brief staff meeting at 9pm) we're going to get a big group going for BF3. i think we had like 15 on teamspeak playing it last weekend. Hop in!
