Hey everyone.
My name's Chris, but I go by Koz (shortening of my last name.) I found this place on a referral from a coworker and heard it might be a fair bit of fun. I'm an avid computer and tech enthusiast who's been gaming for way too long; tinkering with stuff for way longer. =P
Anyways, I was looking forward to meeting some new people to play and hang out with. I'm currently an active member in a little local LAN party group, (roughly 25 people) and would love to see an event the size of yours. Looking forward to good times. =)
Some more about me? I'm a network/security engineer in Northern VA under contract to DoD. When I'm not breaking the internets I'm usually reading (science fiction, current geopolitical events, tech/geekery news), playing hockey, or experimenting in the kitchen with the fiancee.
Here's the currrent rig:
System Specs:
Core i7-920 (2.66GHz)
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
12GB Corsair DDR3-1600
2x AMD Radeon 4890 (1GB)
3ware 9650SE RAID Controller
--4x Western Digital 1TB Drives (3TB RAID 5)
Western Digital 300GB 10k Velocraptor Drive
Samsung DVD-RW
Corsair 1000w PSU
Silverstone TJ10-BW Full ATX Chassis
2x Samsung 204b 20in LCD
1x Gateway 24in LCD
Peripherals
Logitech G15 Keyboard
Logitech G13 Gamepad
Logitech G35 Headset
Logitech G5 Mouse
As for games, I play a bit of everything, RPGs to FPSs. I have a soft spot for old school space sims and the like. EVE Online remains my traditional obsession, though I'm not as active in it as I used to be.
That's about it. Looking forward to playing with you all. =)

Petch huh? Careful. Don't both walk in to the bathroom at the same time and if you do, make sure one of ya goes in the stall even if its just for pee. He had wandering eyes at the urinals regardless of dividers.
Anywho. Great to see ya on! We have ONE more seat left over for a mini lan happening this weekend. Otherwise, we`ll probably have at least one more before the big event in February. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

HAHAHA Making him afraid of Petch already?! He met him first! We are teh scary ones!

Attention: Driver not wearing pants...

Needs moar Descent4. NOW.
About that, I was on the development team called MSDS which then broke off and formed Orbital Design Studios. I still have all of our project files on my pc :) As well as the legal contracts, the design documents, models, music, etc.
This stage of it's life anyhoo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_4#Descent_4:_Invasion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_4#Descent_4:_Invasion)
Oh yeah, proof, if you need it: 3rd poster on the page (taken from the internet archive since the site no longer exists) (http://web.archive.org/web/20021012093050/www.orbital-inc.com/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=1&t=459)

You sure you want to go bragging about that? This is what I saw:
Orbital's Official Princess Bride Buff
Yeah, it's a classic, but I'm just sayin'....
;)

The project lead would randomly surprise me with obscure quotes, and I'd nail the movie every time. It got to the point where he'd only throw out quotes from Princess Bride and he'd try to see how much of the movie I had memorized. Was around the same time that I ripped the movie to plain audio because a friend of mine wanted to listen to it while he drove. *shrug* In my defense, I was also 16 at the time.
-
Ha!
In my defense, I wanted to rip the animated Transformers movie audio and put it on cd to listen to wherever. Seriously, the soundtrack is LEGENDARY and a lot of the lines in the movie just make you laugh.

Welcome Koz!
I grew up in VA and I actually spend a great deal of my weekends down in nova visiting friends from college. Most of them work for various defense contractors. I took a different route and went private sector doing sys admin work for various SAP-based systems.
Including Petch, there will actually be 4 people (that I'm aware of) coming up from the nova area to this coming lan. If you can make it, I'm sure you'll have a great time.
BTW: if you can't make the lan, we do get together most Friday and Saturday nights and you'll find various insane Fites peeps on the Teamspeak server, details here:

Keep an eye on the Calendar thread for any impromptu online games.

Thanks everyone!
Descent was one of the first games I really sunk a lot of time into, and I keep finding myself booting it back up now and then. It's been particularly bad recently, when, in a fit of nostalgia (and wanting to fill in some little holes in my collection) I went on ebay and found a boxed copy of the original, still in the shrink wrap.

Petch told me all about the LAN party this weekend, sounds awesome. Unfortunately I've already got plans lined up for this weekend, but I'll be watching the calendar for the next one and I'll make sure I keep that weekend free.
That being said, I should be around in the evenings, so I'll try and pop in later or so.
I'll try and do some proper forum trolling through the day. =)

Yeah we play online like..every weekend. Usually starting around 9pm and going late.. The typical routine is to play some games (GTAIV, TF2, L4D2, BC2, and so on) for a few hours and then just BS around on teamspeak the rest of the time.

And CRUSH my internet connection while using TS... ;) j/k It's not that bad. I am just surprised how much bandwidth it uses when lotsa people are in a channel. LOL
