Good afternoon, all. My name is Mark. I'm a computer engineer from the Willow Grove area of PA, where I build, repair, maintain, and program all sorts of PCs from crappy little Dell Dimensions that are five years old to a PC that I built with my own two hands that ranks inside the top 1% of all computers ranked in the world with 3DMark06.
I've been looking for something like this group for quite some time now, with my roommate and best friend Jeremy, who is also signed up on this site. We both work at the same small company. I'm looking forward to doing something to help out here, as well as assist with future events.
-
Welcome! Mind if I call you Xeno for short? That's a handful of a handle to type :) Have you (or your friend Jeremy) been to any of our LAN's in the past?
-
We would like to attend soon. We've been lurking around the forums and checking out the website lately, but work has had us too wrapped up to really spend any time interacting. Now that we have a three day weekend, we decided to have a look and see what you folks have to offer, and what we might be able to contribute! :-)
-
Be sure to check out our 150ML wrap-up on the front page so you can get an idea of what we do and what our events are like. If you've been lurking, you've probably seen we hold smaller (~50 ML) events pretty regularly in York, so keep an eye out for that. We should hopefully be holding one of those pretty soon.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the great advice. I'll see you around!

Welcome. So with that top 1% are you into water cooling or phase change? Would be cool to have another hard core OC'er/modder around.
-
We wanted to get the customer water cooling, however, to properly implement it, it would have run him another $500 or so. He wanted to stick to air cooling, even if it meant he had to shut down every three hours.
Sadness, I know. My next box will be water cooled. Period.

Hey welcome to the forums. Hope to see you at the next mini lanner! might need to talk to you about a new rig I am interested in putting together!

Core 2 duo 2.0 ghz (at least) 2 gigs RAM DDR2 (at least), a decent Mobo and 1 PCIe Vid card (not sure what I want yet). Looking to spend no more than $600 if possible. I just want a little more than a basic system so that it can be upgradeable in the future. As of right now I am running a p4 Northwood 3.44ghz, 1.5gb RAM (Mobo is a Chaintech something or other and has an issue with the northbridge when using 2gb of RAM - crashes alot of apps and games 5 minutes in). I do not need a case, HD's (for now) or OS.

PCIe 2.0 is coming in November with the nForce 700/Intel p38 MoBo's. DDR3 and PCIe2 will be the new standard, intel almost got me with their 2.6GHz quad cores for $266-290. Wait a bit if you want something that can be upgraded.

Yeah, I think I read something somewhere that said the PCIe 2.0 board will have around 85 Watts running through that slot?
