Just looking for some people with racing wheels to play FlatOut in Lancaster and this seemed like the place.  (Nice site btw!)

I posted a preliminary invite in the "Other LANParties" Discussion group.

I just built a new gaming system so maybe I'll hook up with you guys sometime.

FlatOut was just released last month.  Gamespot gave it a 7.9.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/flatout/index.html?q=Flatout
The publisher is trying to market it as an over-the-top driving sim focused on spectacular crashes with the driver being jettisoned from the vehicle during high-speed collisions.  In reality, if you turn off the rag-doll physics (it gets old) and turn off the arcade setting, it has a realistic physics engine with excellent graphics.  Most importantly, it's a pure addrenaline rush to race against someone (Great AI btw, but you can't mix real players and computer cars).  Sliding sideways two across through a dirt or snow-laden corner fighting to keep control while the two of you knock elbows leaves you sweating and screaming by the end of the race.  Wrecking progressively affects the physical appearance of your car as well as handling.

I'm a big FPS fan (a recovered Day of Defeat and Planetside addict) but I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long while.  I can't wait to go head to head against 7 other people!

I played with Shadow Dynasty.  Areth was a great commander.

I still think Planetside was one of the best MMPOG's to date.  No other game has demanded such coordinated teamwork (please fill me in if I'm wrong.)   Unfortunatley, the coopoerative element was lost after everyone reached such a high level that they can do everything themselves.

I understand that BF2 has the commander element but I haven't played it yet.  (abstinence has been my only salvation from addiction <g>).

My girlfriend and I played a 1000 games of DoD with Sturmbots.  (Pretty cool to have a girlfriend that likes FPS games <g>).  The CR44 map was our favorite (a bridge in the middle with a river going underneath as an alternative route).  Ufortunately, she never liked playing online or at LAN parties.  She was also a fanatic for Tomb Raider (original) UT, Diablo, Baldur's Gate and Medal of Honor.

Personally, senseless run-and-gun action doesn't have the appeal it used to.  I thirst for a thoughtful game with meat to it and lots of player interaction and interdependencies beyond the simple gunner/medic relationship e.g. It should take three+ people to fly a large battleship.

You're gonna love BF2 then! Its work as a team or die. Playing as the Battlefield Commander is truly satisfying, commanding troops, providing supply, artillery and intel support. Even going toe to toe alongside your troops where they need help the most is amazing.

Commanding vs. Pride at the last LANparty was one of the best gaming experiences I've seen in a while. We had a LOT of great games with both sides working together to outsmart each other. (Don't you DARE touch my cannons!)  :pissed:

Haha, fantastic  :2thumbsup:
