FEB LAN Tourney CSGO Looking for Team
« on: December 11, 2013, 01:36:55 PM »
Hello,

My name is Steve, I am looking for a team for CSGO for the February LAN tourney. I would like to openly inquire on a team that is attending. I am from LI, NY, have tasted invite leagues before but not for CSGO. Hopefully I will!

-----------------------------

More than willing to tryout for a team (Open or Intermediate, I dont think I am pro enough for invite teams) or just get a few PUGers and we can create our own squadron.

Skill Level: Open League =D But am practicing!

PM me if you are interested.

I think you may wish to include an expectation on a skill level. For instance, I plan on signing up as a PUG, but I am really bad at CS:GO. I want to play in the tourney more for fun.

I will also check and make sure the tournament page is set up on our intranet page (intranet.fites.net), from there you can start a team and draft in any PUGs.
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

Thanks for posting. Its nice to see that there is still some enthusiasm in the GO community. Ultimately, the turnout for these tournaments is dependent on the people in their respective communities. It's up to the players to get the word out and get their community interested and you are doing just that.

Oh the stream of "no cash prizes."
We are in a tough spot for cash prizes.

1. We don't want to run afoul of LANFest rules.
2. We don't want to run afoul of PA laws. (Though 99% sure it's ok.)
3. We just want to make sure since we run this as a charitable org and till 100% confidence it's not worth the chance for us.
4. We've been a casual friendly LAN since inception over a decade ago.
5. Being a casual LAN we want to give everyone a chance to compete.

The community that's driven by cash alone has been over all terrible. As individuals they could be fine but as a pack some of the worst. We've had people pack up and leave after they lose out of their tournament. They didn't even wait for prize drawings. (The stuff EVERYONE has a chance of winning.)

We are a completely volunteer staff and we do this because it's something we enjoy but being browbeaten by kids who think they are hot Crap because of a video game gets old in a hurry. You add money to this equation and I am pretty sure it will only get worse. (Though, I love being proven wrong.)

That being said, I would be more likely to be for cash prizes if a couple conditions were met.

1. The community actually be respectful to one another. This is an in person face to face event not some forum.
2. If there is a true desire for cash prizes petition us by attending and talking to us.*
3. We are 100% above board with PA law and if it's a LANFest event they green-light it.

*This footnote is about attending and talking to us. Show us there is competition! In the past there always seemed to be a team in each tournament that was much better than any other team and it becomes apparent pretty quick. And it doesn't seem like there would be enough interest in a paid and unpaid tournament and if it switched over to paid totally I think it would alienate people who just want to have fun.

Would you want to pay to play in a completely unbalanced (team skill wise) tournament? (Do you like throwing money away?) Because I think that's how many would feel. I would rather have open tournaments to get more people involved.

You can't grow a community if the barrier for entry is set too high.

[I apologize if it seems I am ranting at rather than to you. I just keep seeing it over and over again.]

Thank you Twins.. even though we are all gonig off topic of my objective at hand!  :deal2:

No worries but thanks for the compliment. As for me, I am a beginner in CSGO competition but have experience being in a top tier team in serious competition before when the stakes were high. I have never been in a LAN before so I do enjoy the random drawing you guys may have for the upcoming LAN. (which i didnt know about).

I also agree with Shoctor that when cash prizes are on the line..top CSGO players get together and destroy the competition and destorys the idea on what you guys are trying to build/maintain. Balanced competition and having fun, hopefully people will CSGO LAN pug while the tournament is still going on. (If this is allowed)

I hope I can get into a team before the LAN starts. If not, I hope they will get the ringers who arent on a team ... on a team so everyone has a chance to play in the tournament.

I'm sure you'll be surprised at the number of people that start signing up for a team when the LAN actually starts.
