You don't need a permit to fire at a range....I think. I know in baltimore my old boss and I went to the range all the time, never needed to show a permit.

Now with automatic rifles, that may be a horse of a different color.

If I recall correctly you don't need a permit to possess a gun. You need it to concealed carry.

4)  Any persons engaged in target shooting with rifle, pistol, or revolver, if such 
persons are at or are going to or from their places of assembly or target practice 
and if, while going to or from their places of assembly or target practice, the 
firearm is not loaded.

In Baltimore County you have to watch the handgun safety video and wait your days to receive the item. And you get a card that says you completed the "training." And yes you don't need a permit to shoot at the range. Most ranges will also rent guns. First time at a range you have to read their rules and regs and fill out their form. Might be a good idea to decide where we are going and get the forms sent over to us so we can do most of the paper work before hand to not overwhelm them a the door when OVER 9000 of us show up.

I can imagine it being like when we go for Sushi. Seeing the eyes of the one at the desk popping out because 16 of us show up at once.

that's a good idea. maybe we should organize a "FITES day at the range", preferably in the spring or summer months. And maybe even turn it into an annual type thing.
