Stupid asus motherboard
« on: May 31, 2006, 08:28:19 PM »
My stupid motherboard is having some serious issues.  It is overvolting everything.  My CPU was set at default but was seeing 1.6+v, thats a bit too much even for a watercooler.  The X16 pci-e bridge was running so frikin' hot too, I dont know what voltage it was at.

Hopefully asus will RMA this and have it back to me by the next LAN.  I hope my CPU isnt perminately borked either, 1.6v is pretty close to damageing a 90mm die, espically a fresh non burned in one.

it's a Asus a8n32, it was a bios update that screwed me, it also displays .04v higher than it really is.

The problem occured when I updated the bios, the latest bios enables tha 'cpu overvoltage' option automagicly and it adds 0.20v.  This is frickin' stupid, on a 90nm core that is enough voltage to kill a cpu.  Pushing a cpu past 1.55v on water is stupid if you want to run it 24x7.  1.6v gets into the phase change cooling realm.

Other than the overvoltage it is a pretty solid board.
