It's always surprised me this hasn't been a major issue before. Sure, you can find examples of it happening before, but it's been very limited. That little plastic clip on the socket and the cpu itself takes a lot with the weight of 2-3lbs of copper, liquid filled pipes, and fans hanging off it.
