Multiplexing NICs
« on: November 18, 2006, 04:35:41 PM »
OK not entirely a hardware question, but bear with me.

I am planning on setting up a gigabit backbone to the FITHLan network for file and dedicated game servers (not that we need it, but because I want to).  Until then I just set up a new file server and the mobo has dual 100Mb lan ports.  Is it possible using winxp pro to multiplex those 2 lan ports giving double the bandwidth to the file server?
ASUS rampage 2 mobo
i7 920 @ 3.2GHZ
6GB DDR3
Dual 5770s
2x 250GB striped
1x 500GB backup
1x 160GB misc data
Danger Den watercooling for cpu and GPUs

You can do Network Load Balancing on a system with Dual Nics but you need a server operating system to do it.  Windows 2000 Advanced server or Windows Server 2003.  Windows XP will not do it.  Sorry Digr.
Never, but never question the engineers judgement.
